Hurling League 2018

Ah Iā€™m terms of overthinking Iā€™d say your probably right in terms of the overall context of the discussion

Weā€™re already firmly established as a top six team by virtue of our All Ireland quarter final appearances in 2016 and 2017, our romp to the 1B title and league semi-final appearance last season and stonking start to this campaign with the Walsh Cup secured and us sitting proudly on top of 1A.

Nobodyā€™s getting carried away, and all teams should benefit to varying degrees from the extra round robin games, but it should particularly suit us as we play a cerebral and tactical game. The more practice we get in competitive conditions using our preferred systems the better.

I agree that it should potentially be more straightforward to confirm our last six status this summer as we start with Dublin at home and Offaly away in the round robin. 2/2 to kick off and weā€™d be pretty much there and it would appear to be an easier route than having to beat Cork or Kilkenny like in 2016 and 2017. Even if we stumble in one of those two openers then we have a couple of safety net matches.

The big question for Wexford (and all teams really this year) is how to cope with the tempo of the year, rather than the length of it. Looking at the Wexico team from the weekend it looks fairly close to full strength. The league will be pretty intense right through February, and as they will be at the sharp end of things, they will presumably be playing through most of March as well. Gap for April (donā€™t know if club games have been scheduled down there yet, April is jam-packed in Limerick) and then another burst of matches through May and June. So while you donā€™t have a long, protracted championship of maybe five matches over five months, itā€™s fairly intense, with less recovery time, both mentally and physically. A panel with good depth that hasnā€™t been already flogged for the year has an advantage.

Now, on the flip side of that, based on all evidence so far the three qualifiers from the Leinster Group are already a foregone conclusion. So a team like Wexford could take it handy through the group stage and then sleepwalk into a quarter-final that they are really concentrating on. Munster on the other hand will be an absolute dogfight. Of all years it might actually be no harm for Limerick to be in 1B this year.

Chin is a very modest and unassuming chap.

Wexford will surely do the 5 in a row - cant see them being stoppedā€¦

Would you all fuck off ffsā€¦ Davy has them flying with his 40 sessions in 20 days but they will even out with the pack come June and they dont have a big enough panel to rattle Waterford/Tipp/Galway. If the draw falls kindly they could certainly make a semi final.

Id say Nicky Rackard would be modest and unassuming in the presence of a Wexford underage legend like yourself mate

Let it all out, pal.

The shite being spouted here ā€” Galway hadnt even started training last year when they met in the Leinster final and Wexford had 400 sessions done and Galway walked itā€¦Waterford strolled passed them alsoā€¦ I dont think much has changed in a few monthsā€¦ Waterford/Tipp/Galway the ones to beat KK/Clare/Cork behind them and Wexford sit just behind them. Limerick are an unknown and correctly behind the lot.

Wexford-Waterford was decided by a goal from an intercepted back pass.

Lookit, Galway will be deserving favourites again even if some players have a slight hangover and their collective training is a bit off what it was at the same time last year. Thereā€™s no way the likes of Joe Canning will be as quiet and ineffective as last season so all it takes is him and a few others (maybe subs last year) stepping it up to cancel out lads whose level has dropped off.

Tipperary are probably as good as them on their day.

The question for the likes of Wexford is whether they can make a jump from, say, 5th/6th and being losing quarter finalists up into a semi-final and beyond and upsetting the Tipperary/Galway apple and rhubarb tart.

Wexford arenā€™t training particularly hard this season. Youā€™d surely have noticed the timber on a few of our players yesterday.

Iā€™d say that Conor McDonald is a bit of a knob end too

You used to be far more subtle. *

*actually you didnā€™t.

Your posts would carry a lot more weight if you threw in a few ā€˜I supposeā€™ around the place
