Tippâs economy in the forwards is their economy. They often put together 20 odd minute spells where everything just goes over the bar, the likes of the Bubbles and the McGraths often only get 5 or 6 balls in their hand in a game but will hit 4 or 5 points with it. Makes up for a lack of workrate that other players wouldnât be able to get away with
Waterford are overrated by many here for me, anywhere from 3 to 6 but no way are they in a standout top 3
They were ahead of the rest last year anyway, and I suppose thatâs the form to go off.
Maybe theyâll stagnate this year and someone else will step up but as of now, Iâd make them decent favourites in a knockout game against Clare, Cork, Kilkenny, Wexford, Limerick, Dublin etc.
Tipp and Galway are a different matter at the moment.
They lost to Cork mate, and there was likely to be a puck of a ball between them in Croke Park
See I donât believe that, but weâll never know for sure, I suppose.
And Cork did beat them in Munster but they also beat Tipp there⌠And it would appear that McGrath treats it with contempt. Waterford a different animal completely in knockout games. Cork have to raise their game another level to beat them, I think. Not sure Meyler will improve them.
Did your wife tell you to say that?
Waherfurd are going full duck no dinner for the championship this year. They did the same last year and only started to peak at the very late stages of the AI championship, at which point they were a very good side and undoubtedly the 3rd best side in the country behind Tipp & Galway. All three were streets ahead of the rest.
Having said that, surely one of that is group will step up a few notches this year. Cork are at the forefront of that group, and Wexford are currently going well⌠But I hope itâs us.
They didnât exactly steamroll a mediocre KK team either
My dad doesnât trust Malone to deliver if you look at him too hot and cold for the Bridge.hopefully he can be considered for Clare
I would take issue with the fact that Waterford were streets ahead of anyone last year Tipp and Galway not withstanding. Cork were 2 points up after playing badly and were starting to hit their groove until Damien Cahalanes moment of madness. Indeed they beat them at ease earlier on in the summer. They limped over Kilkenny after extra time and only for a fatal mix up in Wexfords defense just before half time and that game would have went to the wire too. The conservative and overly cautious way they play lends itself to the notion that they can never be streets in front on anyone.
Thatâs not true in fairness and nowhere reflective of the game. They were the far better side and dominated the game for long periods and looked home and hosed with 10 to go and should have closed it out but allowed Kilkenny to t get a bit of momentum undeservedly force extra time.
They drove home the advantage again in extra time and won comfortably.
Waterford could have won Munster last year if they wanted to
A team deserving of the rating theyâre being given here wouldnât have allowed a very very average KK team to level it up,
And Iâm not convinced theyâd have beaten Cork.
I rate Waterford as probably number 3 but any of the four teams below them could beat them
Cork are nothing special no joke ye barley beat Clare in the Munster final last year ye pecked against tip
Not special at all Joe, where did I say they were, theyâre a decent team no more or less than Waterford in my opinion
Momentum is a funny thing in hurling. Better teams than this Waterford team have thrown away winning teams against lesser sides down through the years. They regained their composure and closed it out comfortably in extra time . I wouldnât see it as a huge stick to beat them with or say they limped to victory.
I didnât say they limped to victory but the point stands, theyâre almost universally considered a top three team because they made the final last year and werenât absolutely hammered, time will tell but I donât rate them far ahead of any of the chasing pack
They have been a consistent championship team who have hurled well at the business end of the championship three years running coupled with recent underage success and a league title. Thatâs why they are considered a top three championship side currently and should be until they consistently losing games to teams below them
Yeah but Cork could have beat them with 15 men so that means Waterford are shitâŚ
Dear oh dearâŚ
