That’s a pretty random comment :man_shrugging:

You have referenced again ā€œthe tight environs of Cusack Park/Ennisā€.

It’s the same size as many county grounds and 2m wider than Croke Park.

The Telegram group doesn’t discriminate against either wing

The round-robin of the provincial series are complete. Limerick and Cork in Munster, Galway and Kilkenny in Leinster, with Kildare and Laois the top two team the Joe McDonagh are the teams to go through, along with Tipp and Dublin in their third spots. I would normally check to see what I’ve said in previous posts, but I’ll do this one blind, on ā€˜vibes’ if you like. Oh, Antrim relegated from Leinster and Waterford bottom of Munster. Clare and Wexford in no-mans land.

  1. Limerick - Still there, still on top. This is off the back of the big win they had v’s Cork. A second string team went down to Clare over the weekend, but it was a dead rubber so can be struck off. Team to beat, top players rested and will be primed. Only question is can they peak again like they did v Cork again. I think the Munster final will not be the 16 point or whatever it was beating again, it’ll be half that I’d say.
  2. Cork - They are beatable and I don’t know what has gone wrong with their defensive system, but they are still impressive up front. At the very least they’ll be in the semis. The Leinster champs have a chance against them though.
  3. Kilkenny - I’m worried in one way that there is nothing coming through, and that we didn’t put up more than a fight v Wexford the other day. But we got to rest our main players as such, with more gametime for TJ. I’d like to think that we’ll beat Galway in the Leinster final but they have some momentum about them. We’ll see.
  4. Galway - Thought about putting them third but KK did beat them earlier in the RR. But they are coming. They have a top coach now which helps (yes that is a slight on Shefflin) and they are scoring. They’ll find a way to fuck it up, but they will not fear the likes of KK, Tipp or Cork.
  5. Tipp - A getting there year for Tipp and they’ll do well to get to the AI Semis but they are coming which is a worry. Don’t see them beating the top 3 but they have it in them to beat all other sides.
  6. Clare - The basic question here is would Clare beat Dublin more than the opposite and the answer is yes. They don’t get through and are suffering from injuries and AI hangover but nevertheless are a good team.
  7. Dublin - See above. The same can be said would Dublin beat Waterford more times out of 10 and I think it would be 6/4.
  8. Waterford - last again in Munster. The simple fact is that they have never got out of Munster under the current RR system. Not good enough really.
  9. Wexford - beat KK as usual last weekend but ultimately not progressing past Dublin is a failure for a county like Wexford.
  10. Offaly - you couldn’t say that they are in no-mans land like Clare and Wexford, but they stayed up and that I would say was their goal.
  11. Antrim - They would beat Kildare and Laois, but are relegated. I’ll say Davy will walk, so he will.
  12. Kildare - I don’t think I’ve ever included them on one of these lists. Beaten by Kerry the first day out and end up topping the group with Kerry going down. Mad stuff Ted. Hope they win it out and give themselves a chance in the AI series. The good news story of this years championship.
  13. Laois - well able to put up a big score. Come last though as Laois are shit.

That’s it for now. We’ll look at it again coming into the quarters I suppose. Fuck Tipp!

I’d have tipp and Clare above Galway, and Waterford would bate Dublin back to stoneybatter, but they are only minor quibbles

Tipp are underrated. They are on a par with if not better than KK.

I hope we can break into the top 3 if the cut throat nature of munster championship hasn’t taken its toll. Internally it will be interesting to see how the goals are recalibrated. At start of the season being 1 of the 3 was what most Tipp supporters (and privately Liam Cahill) would have been hoping for and being competitive again. We are miles ahead of where we thought we’d be. Now a day out in Croke Park and AI semi final has to be the aim and we’ll see where we are after that. Still we dont have too many injury worries and we should be coming in fresh. AI semi finals can be tight cagey affairs too so who knows but its great to be in the frame.

Very hard to guage Galway and Kilkenny. Galway are unrecognisable from first round capitulation against Kilkenny. They had facile enough wins against Wexford and Dublin. Dublin in Parnell Park is tricky at the best of times. Their problem early doors is they had too big a panel but it seems to be bedded in now. Really hard to attribute any form line to Kilkenny but they’ll be primed to peak in a semi final to right the wrongs of last year and you get the feeling Leinster is a mere going through the motions for them. You feel their lack of firepower will come against them eventually.

Thanks @Locke for that placeholder post. I was in Mountjoy for the week so had limited access to the internet.

  1. Cork. This will have aged very well by Saturday night. If fellas think that was the real Cork a few weeks ago they’re in for a rude awakening. I anticipate a much better showing from both them, and their fans (who might last an hour).
  2. Tipp. All of the Tipp boats are rising a present, and there is a tsunami coming (not sure that works with the boat analogy). Beat Tipp this year if you can because it just wont be an option going forward.
  3. Kilkenny. Kilkenny’s form against Wexford is downright weird. I cant square it. Wexford are shit like, and Kilkenny are good. Make it make sense!
  4. Galway. Whisper it but is MOD actually starting to work his magic on these lads? Dominant win in the actual tight confines of Parnell Park, Galway’s first ever win over Dublin in Dublin, has them back in a Leinster final. And they might just win it too.
  5. Limerick. Lost to Clare at home. Found out. Will be hoping to keep it respectable against a Cork outfit with vengeance on their minds.
  6. Waterford. It’s such a pity this format only gives Waterford 4 chances to get through. Plainly not enough. And it’s everyone else’s fault.
  7. Clare. Pride restored. Beating Limerick means the year is now deemed a success. Congrats all.
  8. Dublin. Every time you think there is something brewing here they drop a clanger. The inevitable quarter final exit beckons.
  9. Wexford. Not a serious county.
  10. Offaly. Managed to stay up, so mission accomplished. Looked competitive against Wexford and Dublin for long stretches. Only a matter of time before they overtake Wexford.
  11. Antrim. This is just sad. I’ve a soft spot for Antrim as a hurling county. It’s amazing what they achieve so isolated from the rest of hurling country. And now, because they bought into a money-hungry, snake-oil salesman, they have been relegated. Hope they bounce back, after they’ve bounced that cunt out.
