Hurling Qualifiers 11th July Semple Stadium

What are your thoughts for Saturday?

Just got 118 myself, kept trying to stick me in the corner the cunts, but nobody puts Julio in the corner.

I’ll be taking on all comers in the Greyhound stadium before and after.

On the game itself. Surely were Cork to employ the same tactics again as the last day Davy will put Tony Kelly no. 11 on DC and get him to move across the middle 3rd all day picking out passes.

A more patient approach, something similar to corks in the football last week, might be the way to go. Stay structured and disciplined and narrow the middle against Cork and any decent side will beat them.

However if it goes anyway helper skelter I think that gives Cork a 50-50 chance.

Could be anything. Going out of curiousity as much as anything else. Will be a good indicator of how we have progressed/regressed since 2013. Cork are a middling outfit but they are producing better performances than we are and should be favourites.

Clare are really coming into this game under the radar. They could produce anything, and I have sneaking suspicion they might win this game well. 5 points or more.

Agree

Not sure they are under the radar - most pundits are tipping them to win it. Mullane called their performance against Offaly “the performance of the weekend”. Everybody seems to be expecting them to ignite at some point. A lot will rest on who gets the match ups right tomorrow - both teams will go out to try and control the key forwards on the other side as far as they can. Clare are rightly favourites but Cork looked very good in the first 20 minutes against Wexford - remains to be seen if they believe in the system when the opposition gets better. If Cork progress Ellis is going to have a big year if he stays fit - that sweeper role seems made for him

When will we get radar that can detect these low flying teams?

‘Performance of the weekend’

Jesus.

Offaly win was utterly meaningless. Laois’ win over them was much more significant. As if Offaly gave a flying fuck about their season after that game.

Yeah I know. Read to me like Mullane was trying to draw attention to Clare as he couldn’t believe it, could he. Else he is just dialling it in

The Limerick defeat may well turn out to be a blessing for Clare. They had a good six weeks to look at what went wrong and get lads back fit and sharp aside from Cunningham who got injured in the club championship. Management have changed tact from before the Limerick game and the heavy training is now over and it is no surprise to see that players are now coming into form. Gearoid O’Donnell who started against Limerick is struggling to make the 26 man squad and they look to be in better nick than this time last year.

Pat Donnellans sending off also helps management out of a bind and I would be surprised if our halfbackline in its current state would be good enough to get us to Croker. I think we will give a decent showing this weekend and would be confident enough but I still think there are a few weaklinks which can be exploited and Cork certainly have men to do it.

They are under my radar, because I saw very little of last weekends action. I didn’t realise they were favourites for tomorrow. A bit surprised at that, not sure they have done enough to justify being favourites. That said, if they produce the performance that everybody knows is in them then they could rip the Cork defence asunder.

Seems to be an expectation that sooner or later they will click because they have the talent. Question is whether that happens under Davy. their record is not great - poor league, poor last year, lost to what looks like a poor Limerick team and beat an Offaly side who are no longer Liam McCarthy standard. Their forwards mean that at some point they will destroy a top team.

The Clare team is unchanged for tomorrow’s qualifier

Informative.

Things going well in the Clare camp by all accounts. This is going to be a cracking game.

Predictions:
Limerick 2-19 Dublin 1-18
Clare 2-23 Cork 0-19

Would largely agree with those.
