I won't be able to drink to spread covid

We might have passed :hushed:

An absolute belter of a pint……

A fair bit of shtick in that I’d say.

You ended up in a right cathedral. You should have given us a heads up and I would have given you four or five places that would have been right up your street. And only two would have been flannerys. But finding Charlie’s the hidden gem would suggest you were well coached

Thanks. We had a great time in Charlie Malone’s. A unique spot with really friendly clientele and staff. Declan Hannon came in about half an hour after we arrived.

Would be most grateful if you would kindly mention those four or five spots.

As regards Limerick, I am familiar with Nancy Blake’s, JJ Bowles’, Tom Collins’, Katie Dalys, Gleeson’s/The White House, Kinsella’s, Charlie Malone’s, Mother Mac’s, South’s and The Curragower.

I find Nancy Blake’s, JJ Bowles’, Tom Collins’ and Charlie Malone’s all outstanding. Kinsella’s and Mother Mac’s are enjoyable, with The Curragower for food. South’s now seems a bit too done up by comparison with when I was first there in the 1980s. Ditto for Gleeson’s/The White House. Katie Dalys seemed neither fish nor flesh.

Am told I need to visit Myles Breen’s, Patsy Nicholas’ and Flannery’s (Shannon Street). Would love to know of more possibilities.

Is Joe still serving?

You’ve the scene fairly well covered there, I would add Flannerys of Wickham street also which has a great pint and maybe Timmy Martins.
With a strong endorsement of the recommendation for Flannery’s of Shannon street which is in my top two along with Charlie Malones.

The other one you are missing from your list in terms of famous Limerick pubs is Charlie St Georges which is where Richard Harris and a few more used to drink (Russell Crowe was there lately in tribute to Harris). It’s directly opposite the train station. Roughish part of town, but you’d be grand in there early in the day, you’d be grand in there anyway really. Pub itself has a lot of nice pictures on the wall and that sort of stuff, but is not hugely remarkable otherwise.

Charlie Malones is a great spot, its so fucking random in there. You could see anything or anyone on a given night.

Had a few pints here Sunday.

Left Hunters Sports Bar, which had 10 TVs split between showing two soccer matches. Went to Flannerys of Wickham St and they had the hurling on a big screen, with 3 other TVs showing, soccer, racing and rugby.

I don’t like Souths. Never warmed to it.

What they did to the White House was an act of cultural vandalism, but then again, the place was empty before and it’s jammers now. But it used to be a much nicer bar before

Anytime I’ve been in that Hunters its the same game on every screen, which for me makes the ten screens a bit pointless. I’d love if it was more like the Woolshed, with random shit on every TV

You can cross JJ. Bowles off that list fairly rapid unfortunately.
Unless you want to be standing up drinking with a crowd of 16 year olds.

The Guinness Guru ruined it

Thanks very much. Did not know Flannery’s (Wickham Street) and Timmy Martin’s. I will be back in Limerick before too long.

Forgot Charlie St George’s… Have been in there two or three times with a friend who lives in Limerick. Enjoyed it. Excellent pint. A small bit like The Hi B in Cork. You describe it well. Would be very like O’Gorman’s in Kilkenny.

Know exactly what you mean about Charlie Malone’s and randomness. Nearly the only Irish pub in which I have heard The Fall being played. The front snug in there must count as one of Ireland’s best places to have a drink.

Completely agree x 2.

I was in there recently having a quiet Thursday evening pint and in the space of about 20 minutes 50 South Americans landed in and a band started playing (and they were unreal).

Shite… Was sorry not to make Bowles’ on Friday or on Saturday. The front two rooms are fantastic.

Belly-tops are compulsory attire in there now…

I am confused…

Tis the opinion of my exiled Clare friend in Limerick that the best pint of Guinness in the city gets served in Myles Breen’s; second best, in Timmy Martin’s.
