I have never intentionally put on an Oasis song in my life. Itâs a bit hard to get away from them.
Thought it was an enjoyable show. Beats the usual shit thatâs on anyways.
An Irish Bay of Pigs was probably a good comparison. Weâd have got our arse handed to us. However weâd have had more martyrs to write songs about in fairness. Never a bad thing.
Kind of the same. One the lads here put it on. I was in the room so it was hard to get away from it.
Beyond the soldiers who were killed, the nationalists in the North would have been slaughtered by raging B Specials/RUC officers.
Enjoyable show, but i donât totally agree with the percieved outcome, but thats for another day.
Great point about the rebel songs though SS**

Sure Cork could take the English on their own, eh KevâŚ
No, iâd say if we brought Kerry, Limerick and Clare with us weâd have done it alright though, no fear. We wouldnât get much help from the cricket playing cats anyway.
In reality i think the Yanks would have put a stop to it all, and the Brits would have been forced to put a stop to the shite going on in Derry and similar towns.
Thats my new message tone right there.

It would have been the greatest disaster in the modern history of the nation had it gone ahead. Catholics were getting burned out of their homes for mere conspiracy theories along this line neverming actual military action. Donât think it was ever really on the cards either though. Cheap talk is all it was.

keeping a few hardliners onside iâd say, by giving the impression he even thought about it.
The bit about us needing civilian buses to bring troops to the border reminded me about our lads needing to hitchhike to Chad these days.
I wonder what the international reaction was to the Brit carry on in the North at that time. Were they aware of it?
Interesting to hear of the UN being mentioned - surely the anarchy that existed in the six counties at that time warranted some degree of action?
I would say it was probably a case of âwell the British are generally on our side so they canât really be doing anything wrongâ.
If something had happened, surely the Yanks or someone would have stepped in.
Was watching Reeling in the Years recently and it was the year Rhodesia decalred independence from Britain, it was funny how the Brits were all for equal rights for the black population in Rhodesia but at the same time catholics were being burned out of their homes and excluded from the democratic process right on their own doorstep, coonts.

Think about in terms of how atrocities committed by the Israelis are treated today. Calls for ârestraintâ, terror cannot be allowed to succeed etc.
Very good documentary.
Would the U.S. not have aided Ireland, her 51st state in our attack of Britain?
I would have honestly thought that myself. I donât know if international reaction would have panned out along the lines of the documentary.

The Yanks would have prevented any large scale action by the Brits in the 26 counties. The Brits would have had free reign in the north though. Theyâd have given the Irish Army a âbloody noseâ and demanded an unconditional withdrawal. Which they would have gotten.
