Whilst waiting for a 208 bus earlier on Curraheen Rd I noticed a late mates visually impaired man of about 70( Derry Walsh of Curraheen Rd)
Trg to make his way along the public footpath opposite a busy school (Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh) Bishopstown.
He bumped his left shoulder heavily into 3 bloody obstacles,2 dopey sign posts and an electric junction box
How the fuck Cork city council gave planning for same I just don’t know.
Junction box is connected to controlling the lights going to and from the school .
The path is narrow and hasn’t any rumble strip ( incorrect terminology I think)
You know what I mean the slabs with different designs/ dimples on them to warn the blind ppl that beaware obstacle or crossing ahead.
It was awful hard to watch,he has a guide dog in the past, now reduced to using a long cane which he moves to and fro testing the surface etc,
But the poor bastard hadn’t any warning at all ref junction box and stupid signposts
I mean whoever decided to put a fuckin junction box and lights so close to each other needs their balls squeezed,
Uncaring selfish bastards.
PS guy in question is v proud and in no way approachable ref offering help etc to guide him home etc
It’s all poor planning and they’re getting away with it. All you can do is complain.
They opened a new Tescos down from me 10 or more years ago. Coonagh shopping centre. And there was no public footpath into it. Would you believe that. To get into it on foot you had to walk down the busy road from the roundabout. You could cross the road from the other side alright but there was a concrete barrier in the middle of the road that you’d have to climb over.
I wrote into the council at the time but there was nothing done. They’ve since upgraded it alright. Pedestrian lights at the roundabout and a footpath but at the time it was a disaster. You’d have to push a wheelchair down the road and through the roundabout to get in and out.
