An English tourist has died two months after he was allegedly kicked in the head in Dublin city centre in an incident that left him in a coma.
It is understood the victim died over the weekend having been hospitalised with critical injuries after the incident.
The man, aged in his early 40s, was rushed to hospital after the alleged assault in the early hours of August 21 in the Temple Bar area.
He was brought to Beaumont Hospital where he remained in an induced coma in a critical condition for a number of weeks.
He was then transferred home to England where he continued to receive medical treatment for his injuries.
This afternoon a garda spokesperson said: "The man (40s) injured following a serious assault in Temple Bar on the 21st of August 2025 passed away in the UK on Saturday the 25th October 2025.
“As this matter is now before the courts this office will not be providing further information.”

A 22-year-old man has been charged with assault in relation to the incident.
Darragh O’Brien, of no fixed abode, appeared before Dublin District Court on August 30 accused of assault causing harm.
That court sitting was told that the tourist was then in an unstable and critical condition.
Garda Colin Kyne-Delaney, of Pearse Street Garda Station, told Judge Monika Leech that it would be alleged that the English tourist had left the Quays Bar in Temple Bar Square when he got into a verbal altercation with Mr O’Brien before he was assaulted.
He alleged that the defendant “swung four kicks and two landed” on the English tourist, initially hitting him in the stomach and chest before striking him in the head. The victim was knocked unconscious and fell and hit his head off the ground.
He was treated at the scene before being rushed to St James Hospital for treatment but was then transferred to Beaumont Hospital which specialises in serious head injuries.
Garda Kyne-Delaney told the court in August that the tourist “remains in an induced coma in an unstable and critical condition”.

He added that due to the seriousness of the incident and the injuries, gardaí would agree to bail only subject to stringent conditions including that he provide gardaí with an address.
The accused was subsequently remanded in custody with consent to bail under strict conditions, including that he sign on daily at Blanchardstown Garda station.
