I did an accumulator earlier - Macedonia and Slovakia to beat Scotland and The Occupied Six respectively at home and Sweden to win in Albania. It works out at a combined 6/1.
Anyway, just watched the first half of the Scotland game and they’ve been dire. They’re 1-0 down and it could have been more.
I definitely thought Gordon took down an attacker for a penalty when they were already behind but Scott Booth was adamant he got a hand to the ball. He wasn’t near the ball.
Gordon made an excellent initial save from a deflected freekick for the goal but no defenders reacted after he pushed the ball onto the post and some lad knocked in the rebound.
Scotland are lined up like this:
Gordon,
Alexander, Caldwell, McManus, Naysmith,
Brown, Fletcher, Hartley, Robson,
Miller, McFadden.
The performances of the 5 Celtic players encapsulate the problems Celtic have at club level. McManus is seriously lacking composure and hoofing possession away. Caldwell made one superb block but hasn’t been commanding either. Brown’s been completely ineffective and Hartley’s sitting way too deep and leaving Fletcher outnumbered. Robson is toiling away on the wing but he’d be much more penetrating in the centre. They look pretty gash.
From a Celtic perspective McManus was miles worse than Caldwell - pretty shocking acually. Others were a mixed bag but overall they looked shapeless.
Booth’s commentary was dire as usual. Naysmith creamed a lad in the second half and Booth said there wasn’t much contact. He never seems to notice that in slow motion you don’t see the contact that clearly because there’s no pace in it. He really is some moron.

When you see a slow motion replay of a tackle it very often looks like there’s no contact if it’s not a clear stamping motion. Because there’s no speed in the footage it always looks like the fouled player has gone down too easily.
Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal again
Argies are one down at home to Paraguay who lead the WC qualification.
1-1 at HT in the Cyprus-Italy game. Could Cyprus be a force in qualifying? Still hope they take points obviously because I can’t see them finishing first or second but they’re hugely improving and probably buoyed by the fact they have a CL team now.
