What else would you do with a Sorcerer? You can’t put him in jail, he’s magic FFS.

The ice-bucket challenge has really distracted the world from the atrocities in Gaza.

utter chaos at the moment on the syrian/lebaneese/israeli border.
a combination of what is left of the free syrian army ( the anti Assad chaps) and ISIS took a load of Philipino UN soldiers hostage during a battle with Assad’s forces for control of the crossing in the Golan from Syrian into Israel ( there is a DMZ patrolled by the UN there between syria and israel)… anyway from watching Channel 2 here yersterday it seems that a bunch of Irish UN soldiers with the help of Assad’s army took on ISIS / free Syrian army and got the Philipino’s released, this truly is an insane situation, Assad must be laughing his hole off, he has gassed a load of kids, commited a genocide , destroyed half the country and here he is with the UN taking on ISIS… a load of mortars flew into israel there today, Israel fired back at Assad’s troops as he is arming Hisbollah who seek the destruction of Israel but also are against ISIS… the place is going mad.
The kurds are still holding out fair play to them, fuck they have had some terrible history, Saddam gassed a load of them in Fallujah, Erdogan and various Turkish PMs suppress and torture them at will and now they are taking on ISIS, The IDF have started to arm them also

I think a few of countries that dislike Israel will have to join together with them to defeat ISIS.

yes
its a massive buzz
i remember there the day of the world cup semi final when this kicked off and i was driving between Ramle and Rishon Le Zion… I had the news on at 7pm and heard " hazaka b ramle" , hebrew for code red in ramle, the wife called me sreaming as she was panicing , all the cars were pulling over by the side of the road, mode of operation is to get our of the car and get down low, i could hear the sirens wailing overhead, this was the start of the war now so people were going nuts, women screaming and shit… i pulled over next to the mosque on road 431 and 2 kids ran in behind my car to take cover, in Ramle we have 45 secs to take cover… then the siren stops and you wait for the boom… now in 2012 we had direct hit on houses here, so everyone was waiting to get hit, we heard a massive boom, i was sure it was a house, but the cheer when you know it is not on you is savage, we later realised it was the iron dome took it down

savage, I know that feeling, real clench the fist and let out a primeval roar, pure “take that ye bastards after trying to kill me”

War makes strange bedfellows

its amazing you know what a war does to people,
even people who were very anti the war, they change once rockets get fired at them or they hear a young lad from down the road lost his legs in a tank in Gaza, i found myslef changing, your head goes fucking mad, i came home that night and saw my Mrs on the verge of a nervous breakdown, i could have went to the airport then but there was no fucking way on earth were we leaving, it was only getting started and no one was bombing me out of my home or forcing me to leave, that may sound totally fucking psychotic, there are time when i think i am fucking insane, i walked into this but now its part or me and im part of it, part of me is sad the war is over, i have never seen a people so together , no one gave a fuck what the world thought, this country was surviving and that was that

Up the republic, Sinn Fein and the IDF!
@mickee321 Netanyahu’s approval ratings have plummeted since he signed the ceasefire according to BBC just there now.
Why is this?
its because nothing has been achieved apart from 74 dead israelis and 2000 dead Palestinians .
this event happens around every 2 years and after each blow up Hamas just rearms and starts firing rockets again, we had it in november 2008, november 2012 and now june 2014, in all cases Israels response could be described as 'excessive" but what can you do when both sides dont recognise each other and wont sit down and talk face to face.
Life in the south of isreal has been impossible for the last year, its not reported at all in the media as no one is killed but every day its rockets… people want this to stop, now you have two ways of doing it, you can go in and try to destroy Hamas or you can sit down with them and try to understand ( as if Bibi doesnt know why) they see the need to fire rockets day in day out at israeli civilans…the problem is Hamas want the state of israel destroyed, both of them will never sit in the same room as each other
Bibi is an egotistical maniac, he cannot accept defeat or he was wrong, he is telling people Hamas have been dealth a huge blow by his decison to go in, yeah great Qatar and the UNRWA will give them millions more and theyll just rearm in 2 years but what could he have done?, he could have kept going until hamas was destroyed? this could never have happened, hundreds of israeli soldiers and ten of thousands of gazans would have been killed but Hamas would never be destroyed… alternatively he could negotiate with Hamas BUT how can you negotiate with someone whose charter says they want you and all your citizens dead?
this is the middle east , normal rules dont apply, arabs understand the rule of the gun and respect this, this may sound horrible but look at arab countries and which one has a fully functioning democracy?, its impossible to negotiate with arabs, its all about honour, look at Khaleed Mashal, he hid in Qatar and has now come back to gaza city claiming a victory over israel goading netanyahu, he bombed israel to a truce, civilian deaths mean nothing to these people… and i include netanyahu in that

Netanyahu has to satisfy the Israelis somehow.

Fuckin hell, they are unbelievable. They literally do not give a fuck.

Mickee - “We’re just trying to survive”…(any maybe steal a bit more land too).

Cameron just announced new powers for the UK government in light of the recent increased terror threat.

It includes the power to revoke suspects passports and restrict suspects movements.
A conspiracy nut would say the UK has just whipped up a frenzy around a possible terror threat to pass through a few laws that seriously restrict the rights of its citizens. But,of course, people would be smart enough to see through that if its what was happening.

Personally, I wouldn’t revoke passports, I’d revoke citizenship and let the cunts rot in whatever hole they have chosen.

They raised the threat level to “Severe” last weekend. He stated that an attack was “highly likely” but that they no specific intelligence to say an attack was imminent.

There appeared to be a method to the bombing of Gaza for 50 days in July and August, or at least a pattern. In eastern parts of the tiny enclave, along the Israeli border, there are levelled or destroyed homes, factories, schools and at least one hospital.

The residents of Shejaia, where Israel lost 13 soldiers on July 20th, believe revenge motivated the extreme destruction there. Seven soldiers died when Hamas fired an anti-tank missile at an armoured personnel carrier. There was no trace of Sgt Oron Shaul, who was in the destroyed vehicle, and it is not clear whether he is dead or alive. Hamas reportedly wants to swap him – or his remains – for 1,000 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

Few Gazans believe they’ve seen the last of the Israelis. “I don’t want any more wars,” sighs Naima (49). She lives with nine family members in a bomb-damaged apartment. Her nephew, Ahmad (24), disagrees. The Israelis shot him in the leg when the family fled Shejaia. His small tobacconist shop was destroyed. “I don’t care if everyone in the Gaza Strip dies, but Israel must accept Hamas’s conditions,” Ahmad says.

Naima’s daughter-in-law Safa holds baby Abdallah, born 10 days before the war. “Everything is destroyed now anyway,” says Safa. “So we may as well hold out for the terms of the resistance.”

In Gaza City, the Israelis mainly attacked high-rise buildings, a strategy Gazans compare to 9/11. A 12th-floor office in the Bank of Palestine provides the perfect observation point. The 17-floor “Italian tower” was the tallest building in Gaza. “They told everyone to leave half an hour before they attacked,” says Hatem Hassouna, a civil engineer and owner of four destroyed factories. “Everybody left, so if they were targeting someone, he was gone too. It looks like wanton destruction.”

Civilian deaths
Civilians were caught up in targeted attacks. Israeli forces bombed without warning the building where Shabaan Dahdoh, a leader of Islamic Jihad, was hiding, at the moment of the evening iftar, the meal that breaks the fast during Ramadan, killing more than 20 civilians.

They killed some 14 civilians in the attempted assassination of Mohamed Deif, the leader of Hamas’s military wing. Israel says Deif is dead; Hamas says he is alive.

The Italian tower was bombed by an F-16, which means the skeletal structure will have to be torn down. Apache helicopters fired missiles into the top floors of the high-rise that housed Voice of al Aqsa, the Hamas radio station. They targeted the top floors of Hamas government offices in the same manner, so that building too may be salvaged.

The rubble of the home of the mayor of Gaza lies flat as a pancake, hidden by surrounding high-rises. Five floors of a tall blue and grey building were also destroyed, though no one knows why.

Seeing as I’m on this thread is anyone well read enough to give us a heads up on whatever’s going on in Pakistan?

A small group lead by a cricketer & a cleric want to overthrow the government. The army holds sway there though and as yet are still supporting the current lad (Shariff) who was elected by a huge majority about a year ago in the first ever democratic transfer of power (normally the army throw whoever they don’t like out and call new elections).

They are accusing Shariff of corruption, which I imagine in Pakistan is par for the course.
