Ireland & Death

I think Irish people do death exceptionally well, funerals in Ireland are beautifully observed and sensitive occasions and I’ve always found people to be very genuine in their grief and concern for the bereaved families. But to say we’re obsessed with death doesn’t make any sense to me.

Spot on mate. The truth is you need to leave the country and see how “progressive” societies deal with death and grieving to appreciate Irish customs. It most certainly predates Christianity or at least the fucked up version we were unfortunate to be born into.

Christianity gave us fucking nothing but grief. I think most of the more positive traditions in Irish life and culture have an anetcedent in pre-christian times. Then the god botherers arrived and imposed their rigid ways us. What Ireland needs is to banish religion.

Spot on mate. Men dressed in frocks telling us how to live our lives. How fucked up is that. Massively fucked up is what. Just listening to John Lennon here, he had it figured out.

Can anyone list out what Christianity gave to the world? Fitzy and the boys seem to think it was stone useless and we’d have been better off without it, would this be the case?

Pontificating cunts, what Ireland needs me bollix.

Agreed. I just find it amusing the way these fellas are happy to Ray Darcy’esque dismiss Christianity as a whole. I’m not lauding it or anything, but I find their one eyed views here amusing and perhaps worthy of some debate.

Fitzy is an intolerant bigot.

Your point?

Priest lover.

The racist speaks.

You’re the one intolerant to other’s views, mate.

Christianity has done fuck all for this country… It has been a curse on us.

Right on. Fuck Christianity… Tom Brady doesn’t need it.

Village mentality. Was talking to a British city lad about this recently and said he would never go to a funeral or whatever for someone he didn’t know, even if he knew someone closely effected. I couldn’t fault his logic really.

And what’s our “national” day? Paddy’s Day. Celebrating someone that never existed, rather a metaphor for the driving of the Druids out of Ireland. The vatican must have a nice old chuckle every 17 March.

I wasnt talking about this country, they said Christianity us nothing. I take that to mean humanity, the fucker doesnt live here after all so I doubt he was talking about Ireland. Its an interesting statement to make.

As for Ireland, I’m sure thats a very broad sweeping statement to make. I wouldnt dare to claim one way or the other, but I’ll be interested to hear what makes you and fitzy think this.
