Ireland v Luxembourg - the Piles Derby

That was tough to watch. Kenny’s interview that is. On a human level Tony should have cut it sooner.

The sign of a really pathetic individual is noone even has the heart to attack him. Stephen Kenny.

Kenny in fairness appears to be the only one with his homework done who is properly appraised of the strength of this Luxembourg team.

Who would you say are our best players?

Coleman hasn’t been the same since the leg break. He’s not even an automatic pick for club or country these days.

Matt Doherty? No team relying on him will succeed.

Duffy? Form gone off a cliff.

So much dross there. Still should be good enough to get results against the likes of Luxembourg.

this reminds me if Northern Ireland in the late 90s and early 00s under nigel Worthington and mcilroy
actually…how many games did it take mick o Neill to get a win with them before getting to euro 16?

Duffy, Hendrick and Doherty pissed off? Neither of the 3 can get a game at club level. Everyone was calling for Hendrick and Doherty not to start.

Ah in fairness Coleman is one of our best players.

Coleman has been excellent for us. First name on the sheet

He seems to be but I think the players and injuries havent helped his cause.

No one goes out to fail to be fair, I suppose its a results business though.

Massive problem is we have absolutely no pace up front. A Luton Town reserve and a Bournemouth reserve our options tonight. Thought Browne had a nightmare. Robinson looked uninterested. McClean and Brady look finished. Dont think Big Sam will want the job.

You’ve named it there. We have fuck all good players. Maybe a few coming through.

But all lads can come out with is “we should be beating Luxembourg”.

A bit of a low but that’s pretty much our level and it was actually that bad at the of the tenures of the last three managers too.

Regardless of form they are senior players in the set up and with Coleman and Brady the lads who most likely set the tone off the pitch in what is an inexperienced and callow group. If your senior players are pissed off and you haven’t a win in 10 games then it’s pretty much heading towards an obvious conclusion

I know yeah but Kenny only dropped him a few months back in favour of Doherty.

Been a great servant for us but the attacking part of his game has been diluted, which has really neutered us an attacking entity.

Yeah it’s very similar to Michael O’ Neill’s qualification campaign with NI for the 2014 World Cup. He eventually came good and brought them to the 2016 Euros and within a whisker of the 2018 World Cup. The journos will be citing that example tomorrow.

  1. We don’t have many good players
  2. We have far better players than Luxembourg

Both true

Brady looks done mate. Hendrick has been woeful all season.

Bazunu

Do we? Sometimes a team plays above themselves. That’s what we expect Ireland to do. We were on the other end of it tonight.

Doherty and Stevens are just not good enough. Whatever about Stevens, Doherty should be, but Jose seems to have destroyed him altogether.
But there isn’t a goal anywhere in that team.
Had the starting eleven tonight 10 International goals between them? Barely 5 I’d say?
I’d say there was hardly 10 goals between them for their clubs this season either
