So you think Hendrick, Brady and McClean would genuinely make a difference? All substitutes at their clubs
I wouldnāt say Collins is a definite at all. The few times Iāve seen him play he looks like a lad whoās overrated as a defender because he can play a bit
If we got the whole lot of em vaccinated (I know a lad in the Beacon ), might it help?
To be brutally honest here World Cup qualification is going to be very difficult going forward (current format ) and a dumbed down Euros is where we need to be qualifying for .
The issue now is do the FAI think SK can bring a team to the Euros in 2024
One thing that slipped beneath the radar towards the end of the game was my correct second half injury time prediction.
Fuck up to bed.
I just have to put on the dishwasher and put on a clothes wash. Iāll set the latter to āfinish in 7 hoursā and then have the excitement of wondering if the washing machine will take the clocks moving into account.
Theres s full three hours of diners drive ins and dives on usa food network here. Iāll post up a few on the ravenous thread in the morrow
I see the off the ball lads have found their angle. Blame dela for this mess.
Trying to get a bunch of reglation battling EPL cloggers and a some average Championship players to play technical football was a strategy for the birds. Guys like Trapattoni, OāNeill and McCarthy were all pragmatic managers, they came in, surveyed the scene and came to the conclusion the only type of football you can play with these players is regressive, defend for your life football and harness a good spirit to grind results. Those three managers got lambasted for some very decent performances with a very limited bunch of players.
Kenny has came in with this idealistic approach. He has discarded guys like McClean, McCarthy, Duffy, Brady, Hendrick, Long, McGeady - arguably to build for the future but seriously wtf are guys like Ciaran Clarke and James Collins going to give you? What sort of future are you going to achieve with Alan Browne and Enda Stevens?
When you have players you can build the future around then you discard those veterans. Ireland were crying out for a McGeady type player tonight who could make something happen, who can beat a man, drop a shoulder and play a pass. Instead they had Collins trundling about the pitch like an Irish rugby player with his mickey out in a Dublin pub.
Thereās no point in Ireland trying to fastrack a different football style while the players arenāt there. The transition must be slow. Is this team much more limited than previous incarnations over the past decade? A bit but not by a whole pile, itās the culture that seeped it now, not good enough technically but now soft as fucking shit. That culture could be hard to shift going forward - look at the Scots for decades - easily as good as Ireland for the past 15 years but just an embarrassment on the mental side.
Anyway, Ireland should focus on the way the bring the kids through, it will take a good decade to move the way football is played on this island. With the u18 rule on players not moving to the UK, itās vital that LOI clubs are heavily backed in their academies and can get decent fees for the next Robbie Keane or Damien Duff. Say the likes of Shams bring through a new Robbie Keane, heās 17 and scores 22 goals in the LOI and heās under contract for 2 more years. They could be looking at a fee of potentially Ā£3-4m with loads more add ons. Thereās a real chance in the future for the LOI to get to a standard of say the Scandanavian leagues.
But until that gets to a stage, Ireland need a mullocker, no shit type dinosaur of a manager who garner that gutsy resolve type spirit the national team has had for 30+ odd years prior to the Kenny regimeā¦
Itās the lack of intensity we are playing with is whatās most troubling. Thatās your starting point. Get up and at em, be in peopleās faces, donāt be afraid to leave a leg in. Whelo, Meyler, Walters while all limited were well able for the rough and tumble of International football.
Despite our limitations we were horrible to play against. Even those Danish pricks hated us.
Now we are so āniceā and ācallowā cc @Big_Dan_Campbell
The lack of crowds might be too simplistic but under Mick, youād have had himself and TC barking out the orders and even Robbie had some presence. We had energy about us.
Martin OāNeill in his tracksuit and Roy fully togged out always had them up for it.
Kenny standing there in his suit just doesnāt cut it. Andrews doesnāt seem to be very inspiring either.
In summary, he has to go.
Hardly any need to set it when yourself and the young lad will be up to put it on soon
Assume Shamrock Rovers got a few quid for Baz making senior international debut?
I donāt follow him but Hugh Cahill of RTE rubby/horse racing had a tweet appear on my timeline. His angle was at least Kenny spoke honestly to Tony OāDonoghue afterwards, unlike that Martin OāNeill fella.
Finish in 7 hours is 6am. Weāll be well up at that stage and can horse the clothes into the dryer. Use that electricity, use it good and proper (cc @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy).
Well we are out now and going forward i would no longer pick Duffy, Hendrick, McClean, Stevens, Long and Collins. Robbie Brady and Doherty barely hanging on.
Even with a mullocker type of manager what can he do with Collins and Long as your strikers?
