Selling tickets is what we in Ireland do well .
Iāve seen tributes from Irish and international football legends ranging from Cillian Sheridan, David Beckham, Shane Long, Shay Given, Stephen Reid, Clinton Morrison to name a few. All saying Robbieās a great player, a super guy and a wonderfully positive influence.
Donāt forget Michael D
I remember reading a Stephen Reid column a while back where he wrote about how nervous he was at his first squad call up. Said heās naturally shy, didnāt know anyone in the squad and felt really overwhelmed and anxious the evening he reported to the hotel before the first training session the next morning. That was until Robbie approached him in the lobby, introduced himself and asked him to come for a cup of tea with himself and some of the other players. Made him feel completely at ease and part of the group from the get go. A lovely man by all accounts.
Heard that said about him of any new call up, would always go out of his way to personally welcome to the team hotel and group. A lovely man. Iām quite emotional over this news. You know itās coming but you still canāt properly be prepared for it.
Soft bastard
Great goal scorer . Beautiful words by mick McCarthy on the radio this evening .
Matt Holland, David Meyler, Kevin Doyle and Jeff Hendrick the latest to provide fulsome tributes to Robbie.
It was his boyhood dream to retire from playing for Ireland.
Canāt believe that commanded a ālikeā.
Iāve never seen or heard a bad word said about him. Heās universally liked here in this country, most probably anywhere he has gone too. Clearly a top, top lad. Not often Iād bother replying to threads like this as usually the same few will spout the same old rubbish to get their two cents in but in this case the more posts of appreciation the better as far as Iām concerned.
+1
I heard he drowns kittens and clubs baby seals in the off season.
Has Robbie ever been sent off lads?
A few times actually. 4 years ago (pretty much to the day) he was sent off for diving and then arguing with the ref - 2 yellows.
Figured it wouldnāt be for a tackle anywayā¦
Are you really?
His only downfall is he played for Leeds scum. Top notch player for the country all the same and seems like a nice fella.
I fear I shall be a blubbering wreck at the Oman game saluting our sweet prince.
Irelands finest and by all accounts a decent lad as well.
Now, he can retire from the international with the serenity of a warrior who knows that did everything he could. He has nothing more to do to augment the meaning of his name.
