Irish Open

any interest in this?

i see Harrington has moved to one off the lead on -3.

will he bottle it this time?

I presume he’ll bottle it but he doens’t have that much competition. He seems to be playing well at the moment but I’ve no faith in him closing it out even though the pressure in a competition like this would be minimal if it wasn’t his home tournament.

Was chatting to Jugs about the Irish Open yesterday alright. We were reminiscing about the old days of the tournament when it was held in late June 2 weeks before the British Open. I remember going to Mount Juliet and Druid’s Glen in the mid/late 1990s and getting to see Els, Singh, Goosen, Allenby even Greg Norman one year as well, along with the best Europeans at the time like Faldo, Monty, Olazabal, Langer and then the young pretenders coming up through the ranks like Bjorn, Harrington and the likes.

Now it’s in a scheidt part of the schedule coming straight after the ‘fifth major’ in Sawgrass, Florida last week and before a big tournament next week (can’t recall which - is it the BMW in Germany?). As a result they’re never going to get a quality field like in the old days and also most of the best young Europeans are based primarily in the US now like Garcia, Stenson, Casey and Donald. It’s a poor enough standard in all honesty and I guess the only reason Harrington is actually playing is because it’s his home competition.

Yeah it’s been badly relegated on the European Tour - a real second class tournament, not too far removed from the European events that coincide with US majors. Used to go to it every year in Portmarnock through a hole in the fence. It was great craic back then and the fields were far higher quality.

looks like harrington will be leading at the halfway point. surely cant be any excuses this time against such a mediocre field?

Is Harrington about to bottle another one?

2 clear on the 17th and then the lad Dredge stuck his approach to the pin. The pressure was on Harrington then and from the middle of the fairway he shat himself and put his approach through the green. Dredge birdied and Harrington bogied after a poor chip.

They’re on the first play off hole now after both parred the 18th.

Yet it’s Dredge who fires into the water on the first play-off hole (the 18th again). Harrington safely on the green. Dredge considering playing from the water. Harrington, the Irish hero, should win this.

Harrington is the champ. A great day for Ireland.

Two years on, the Biffo has this in his hands, again!

Gwan ta fuck Lowry!

Put your fucking hands down, you’ve nothing won yet…!

Motherfucker, great putt by Rock!

Some fookin entertainment this is. They could be here all night!

If this was rugby the caddies would be playing this hole.

Shocking tee shot there by the Biffo. This could be hte end.

Whats going on now? Flicked over for a second and the Rock lad seems to be half way up the Cooley mountains.

Update lads???

Both of them are in the ditch there I think lads. Flicked away myself, but the Biffo had gone in first, and ROck seems to have followed him.

Shite weather.

Yep, both of them in the ditch. Both of them came out of it pretty similar too! THese two cant be fucking separated!

6 hours playing now apparently. Some drain!

Cheers keep us posted

Biffo is a real grip it and rip it, yer man is Peter Ebdon-esque.

Biffo on the green first, bit of a distance off the hole though.
