Irish Soccer Squads

Stokes in the B Squad. Delighted to see Stephen Ward in the B Squad too - quality young player over the last couple of years and he’s done well at U21 level too. O’Brien and St Ledger have dropped down to the B’s. Is Owen Garvan injured? Thought he’d make one of the squads.

What’s Stephen McPhail’s form like? If he could return to something like the sort of form he was in when he began with Leeds then it would be a big bonus - a big ‘if’ I would say

Apparently he’s playing very well at the moment. I had a quick look at a Cardiff City message board there though and they have a discussion on player of the year so far and his name isn’t mentioned (about 10 others are).

Garvan is recovering from shingles, has post viral fatigue syndrome, can do f**k all apparently. No return date for him yet although he has been in light training.

As for McPhail, have watched Cardiff once this season and he was a lazy f**k. Forget about him I reckon. Must be close to 26 at this stage too.

And yes, I am willing to write McPhail off based on one performance this season. I’m in a bad mood this morning.

Along with everyone else I had great hopes for McPhail at one stage but given the type of player he is he really needs to be performing at a higher level if he’s to make any impact with Ireland. A lazy but talented guy who sometimes turns it on in the EPL (or SPL ;)) might have some value, but an occassional talent in the championship would be useless for us internationally I reckon.

Thanks for the Garvan update.

Noel King has recalled Andy Reid, Kevin Doyle, Anthony Stokes and Darron Gibson to the Irish soccer squad. Conor Sammon and Simon Cox have been dropped.

Poor ol Coxy :frowning:

Glenn abides

Welcome back Anto.

No Darren O’Dea despite the suspensions. Strange.

Bullshit of the highest order. Very disappointed with Noel King. Kevin fucking Doyle!

Noel King out.

Any chance we might start with Andy Reid and Wes Holohan in the same midfield?

Andy Reid.

Who is he again?

Dunphy will be blowing his load.

Of course playing the two of them in central midfield would be carnage.

Not at all, with Whelan holding the middle and the 2 of them playing in behind a lone striker we’ll hammer the Germans out the gate

Robbie Brady will miss out apparently due to a hernia problem.

A comeback for Stephen Ireland was discussed. He doesn’t feel in top condition/ready but gave impression he wants to play for Ireland again.

Full squad

David Forde, Keiren Westwood, Darren Randolph,
Joey O’Brien, Sean St Ledger, Marc Wilson, Seamus Coleman, Stephen Kelly, Ciaran Clark, Paul McShane,
Darron Gibson, Glenn Whelan, James McCarthy, Paul Green, Andy Reid, Aiden McGeady, Anthony Pilkington, James McClean, Robbie Brady, Stephen Quinn, Wes Hoolahan,
Shane Long, Robbie Keane, Jon Walters, Kevin Doyle, Anthony Stokes

That has to be the weakest defence we’ve had in any squad for as long as I can remember.

On the plus side however, John O Shea isn’t part of it.
