Conor Sammon must be disappointed not to be picked. I wonder if he will refuse to play for us now?
Why are we even bothering with this clown? It’s not as if he is Roy Keane or anything.

David Forde, Keiren Westwood, Darren Randolph,
Joey O’Brien, Sean St Ledger, Marc Wilson, Seamus Coleman, Stephen Kelly, Ciaran Clark, Paul McShane,
Darron Gibson, Glenn Whelan, James McCarthy, Paul Green, Andy Reid, Aiden McGeady, Anthony Pilkington, James McClean, Robbie Brady, Stephen Quinn, Wes Hoolahan,
Shane Long, Robbie Keane, Jon Walters, Kevin Doyle, Anthony Stokes
That has to be the weakest defence we’ve had in any squad for as long as I can remember.[/quote]
I’m no fan of Cox (!) but I think he has done more to warrant inclusion than a lad who has scored 1 goal from 6 matches in League 1.
Clark has been in exceptional form for Aston Villa this season so far after a terrible season last. Hopefully he can start bringing some of that form to the international side.

A great bunch of lads
Cox has done nothing for Ireland since getting the Armenia keeper sent off 2 years ago. Faded completely after a decent handful of caps to start. Wouldn’t be too pushed about which of them got the nod. At least Doyle contributed a winner in Astana in this campaign.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Stephen Ireland can fuck off.
Some amount of dross in that squad. Sammon can have no complaints over his omission, a terrible player. A few like Doyle and Green (and others) who are fortunate to be in there.
Possibly the weakest group of players we have had in 30 years or more.
Whats the story with Doyle and his crash in form? I thought playing in Division 1 he would be banging in goals week in week out but 1 in 6 appearances is a pretty poor return.

Disagree. It’s not that long since we only had about 6 players starting in the EPL. Pretty sure we could name a First XI of EPL players this weather. And we have some serious class in Stokes, Reid etc.
If the lad gets back playing to his highest standard, we can’t ignore him. I don’t blame him for wanting to find some form to be honest.
Ciaran Clark can get a rating as high as 90 as a CB in FIFA couple of seasons in so don’t worry about him.
Robbie Brady has pulled out of the squad, as expected. He needs to have a hernia operation.
Andy Reid
Rob Elliot has been named in Noel King’s Republic of Ireland squad to face Germany and Kazakhstan this month.
Newcastle goalkeeper Elliot receives his first senior call up in place of Darren Randolph, who misses out in order to have treatment on a shoulder injury.
Jonathan Walters will be medically assessed at Stoke tomorrow to determine whether he will report for duty on Monday after being substituted in the 70th minute against Fulham today with a groin problem.
Damien Delaney, who was added into the provisional squad on Thursday after he passed a late fitness test at Crystal Palace, remains in the squad.
Paul McShane, Stephen Quinn and Paul Green remain on standby.
Ireland face the Germans in Cologne on October 11 and the Kazakhs in Dublin four days later.
