Irish soccerball nil - That boy Bazunu will save us (Part 1) 🐐

No wonder a couple of lads double job doing both.

A nice few quid to be made at weekends if you are willing.

It’s an utterly thankless task. You’d do it for the love of the game, or not at all. Thing is, you fall very quickly out of love with anything that calls you a cheat and a disgrace and a cunt unprovoked.

Refs get 45 for club games in Laois anyway. But don’t expect to get the fiver back off the cunts if you give them a 50 :rage:

I’ve it in my head they get €70 for some reason.

A Queen’s County native Cormac Moore is the leading authority on this subject. I’d expect Cormac to feature prominently here.

cc @myboyblue

you would need your absolute head examined to referee soccer at any level i think in this country.
i often said ( and i think on here) that if fellas want to see things from a real perspective go to an LOI first div game and get down next to the linesman and watch and listen - the abuse that man gets from players/managers and the small number in attendance (absolute diehards btw) you dont get the liverpool manyoo football tourists here is horrific
at the end of a game players will approach and fk the ref out of it - ive done it myself, players in soccer have no respect for the ref from senior level in this country down to u14 local, now i cant speak for any other country but id imagine in uk its the same, again people who watch the EPL will never know as its a fanatasy land - id imagine getting to a vauxhall confernece game at Gravesend and northfleet or ebbsfleet cc @flattythehurdler would be an experience

my dad did up to LOI first div but the worst of all he told me was MSL -all clubs and the league is only cork - the abuse refs receive is horrific, its gotten physically violent now tho,

honestly i actually wouldnt be too bothered if my lads never wanted to play soccer - the gah club here and the soccer are like night and day really

my soccer fantasy land can be studying early round UEFA cup draws in the Faroes - other lads have the EPL, the reality on the ground is just disgusting

Cormac is of good Emo stock, wouldn’t kick it out of his way himself mind you

I had some dealings with Cormac a few years back. Very nice fellow.

The AUL in Cork is the worst I’ve seen for ref abuse in terms of sheer volume.
Some of the refs are seriously incompetent and in Premier, Premier A lads are serious about it.

I’ve been involved in two matches that were abandoned because the ref just had enough of abuse from the line.

Wouldnt be unusual for a ref to do two underage games of a Saturday and two juniors on a Sunday. €200 plus your dole.

Once upon a time many years ago we played a game across from Apple think it was against North Villa at u 18 level. The ref was about 16. There was a couple of dozen hard chaws on their bikes drinking cans watching the game (at 11am on a sunday morning). We managed to go ahead and they kicked the living shit out of us for an hour then. Ref booked some of their lads 3 or 4 times but he was afraid (rightfully) to send them off.

His father was at the match with him and every so often when there was extreme violence he would look over to the old man to see what to do. To be met with a firm shake of the head - do nowt.

With about 20 mins to go a long ball was gathered in or around the penalty spot by our keeper who was absolutely ploughed with a belt of a shoulder into the chest with such force he staggered backwards only to get a second shoulder from a different lad. He collapsed into the back of the net with the ball in his hands. The boys were celebrating the ‘goal’ like it was a world cup final. The ref disallowed it and about 30 secs later fearing for his life he abandoned ship and fucked off home in fear of his life. I doubt he ever reffed again.

In a post script to those events, whilst we were celebrating the win/collecting our body parts from the field the hard chaws opened the window of our dressing room and proceeded to spray a hose of water in and drowned all our clothes

Salad days

The old footage is great.

Football = urban
Rugby = prod
Gga = rural

Some things never change

Could that have been Alan Kelly reffing with his Dad Pat on the line?
Alan started reffing when he was 18, I can’t ever recall any similarly aged refs in Cork back then, he was a decent centre back, now that I think about it maybe it was his brother Graham.

No idea. This would have been c 1994 id say. Was an absolutely shit standard and the only season we entered a proper league. That was only win we had.

Could have been Alan I’d say, he would have been 18/19 in 94, the only ref of that age working in Cork back then I’d say, he’s gone on to much bigger things than the field in knocka with the track running diagonally across the pitch
