Abbeyfeale gave up one lad as doing the whole thing but the ref says two lads were involved. Abbeyfeale refuse to name the other lad for some reason.
The refs have made very reasonable requests as a way to compromise. 3 officials at all games is probably unworkable (and unaffordable) but the proposal that all the lads named on the abbeyfeale team sheet the day of the game be banned for the rest of the season is fair enough IMO. Obviously a few innocents get punished but it’s only their youths. The alternative is the whole league gets fucked.
If it was Askeaton FC or most other clubs involved they’d have been thrown out a week after it happened and that’d be the end of it.
We played Askeaton away in the last game of an u-12 league title decider, back in the day. Can remember it likes it was yesterday. If we won we were champions, a loss and we’d miss out.
Unlike GAA we always got buses to away matches - there wasn’t enough interest in the parents to drive to soccer matches themselves I suppose. Going to Askeaton was the west Limerick equivalent of going to Galatasary, our bus was stoned a couple of times there.
Anyways usually for a game at that age group you’d just have the ref on his own. This time there were two proper, official linesmen too. It became apparent why after about five minutes when one of the Harty’s clattered one of our lads and got a red card - which was absolutely unheard of back then.
We won 2-0 or 3-0 anyway, the highlight of my career. We had the cup in the National school the next day, great times.
As regards the current dispute I doubt there’s enough officials to go around having three match officials covering every game, never mind the trebling of costs per game.
John Delaneys stock has risen drastically after the publication of that Niall Quinn document.
RIP
Villa have a bin for a heart.
There is no sympathy in this game .
Ireland playing China in the Toulon tournament at half 2 today. It’s free on Freesports channel 429 on Sky. Champions League winner Caoimhin Kelleher starts in goal
1 up after 30 seconds. Elbouzedi. Nice football in the lead up

Don’t think so. Leahy is Bohs is he? Elbouzedi is Waterford and the rest English based I think. Farrugia would also have started but he’s injured and his replacement Aaron Connolly has been excellent
2-1 now. We’ve been very comfortable on the ball which is good to see
Adam Idah makes it 3-1 from the spot. Should have a good chance of getting through the group after this
Very encouraging stuff. Interesting to note that not one of these players was picked by that clown Noel King in his last game as manager just 9 months ago in a 6-0 drubbing by Germany
4-1 for a finish. Ireland never feared China
& on the Chinese team?
They use this to prep their Olympic team. I don’t think Tallaght is on the programme.
Lee O’Connor is a nephew of former Waterford hurler and footballer Liam “Chuck” O’Connor. Chuck was famously referred to as the Black and Tan in Blue and White by Kevin Cashman after the notorious 1989 Munster Final. Chuck also represented Munster in Railway Cup hurling and football. He was a good soccer player too
Lee is good as well. Think he’s still only in his teens. Think the captain Molumby is from Waterford too and there’s two lads playing for Waterford in the squad but not sure if they’re actually from Waterford
