Irish soccerball nil - That boy Jinky will save us (Part 2)

Have we already written off Nathan Collins/O’Shea/Knight/Idah/Parrott we have?

My Republic of Ireland team in 2026/27: (FM23)

GK: Kelleher.

He’s rated 3.5 stars despite remaining at Liverpool on limited gametime. Bazunu’s career was stifled a bit at Southampton when Lafont came in for big money and stole his spot. Bazunu now plying his trade for Trabzonspor. Travers is No.2 at Man City randomly enough. Max O’ Leary is after overtaking Travers in the pecking order after gaining regular gametime for Everton.

RB: Jason Knight. Now playing Premier League football at Brentford. No real natural RB in the squad now that the Doc is finished.

CB: Nathan Collins (Sporting Lisbon)

CB: Andrew Omobamidele

LB: A weak spot in our side. Tayo Adaromala often plays here but of late Liam Scales has been afforded an opportunity following his regular run of games at Stoke. Ryan Manning was a consistent option here too.

CM: Jason Molumby (Watford)

CM: Gavin Kilkenny (Luton who spent a season in the Prem)

RAM: Paul Nebel. The star of the team since declaring for the Republic.

CAM: Will Smallbone (Basel)

LAM: Kevin Zefi or Andrew Moran

ST: Adam Idah (Norwich)

To my eternal regret I started this career before the March updates which enhanced Evan Ferguson’s stats massively. Idah probably the best option, although Troy the boy did have a brief loan spell at Celtic and Aaron Connolly is now at Sporting Lisbon following a prolific spell in Mexico.

Troy is now a Leeds United player following a cool £6.25 million switch. He’ll be a good option for us out wide and in the central areas.

We’ve qualified for successive tournaments. Losing narrowly to Portugal in the Round of 16 at both Euro 2024 and World Cup 2026. We did make it out of a group with Italy, Croatia and Sweden at the Euros. Sweden going on to defeat Norway 1-0 in the final randomly enough. We topped a group including Canada and Thailand in 2026 and accounted for Tunisia in this new round of 32 before running into our Portuguese nemesis.

Liam Delap is yet to be capped by England at the age of 23 but is still rejecting my advances. Louis Barry did declare for us but he’s barely good enough to attain a place in our 23 man squad tbh.

What sort of footix oddball writes an essay about his imaginary computer-game team?

Football clubs buy the stats and analysis off Football manager’s developers. They have done for a few years as it saves money on employing their own in house analysts.

More of a chance than your door anyway. Your negativity would cause a rift in the dressing room from early doors.

As mentioned above, Football Manager is a decent predictor of how players will develop in the coming years. I was merely providing insights into what kind of team Ireland had developed in 2026/27. Relevant given the discussion was about this so-called “golden generation”. Although that talk is very premature.

I remember one of the English Sundays had a feature in 1990 about what the English team would be in 1995. The only one I remember was Earl Barrett. I think it was in the short lived Sunday Correspondent

Football manager is serious business. I won five Serie a titles in a row with Roma and a couple of champions leagues.

A cool kid

I believe there’s a gap in the market

Oohh noooo

Ferguson crocked by the sounds of it.

A brace for Molumby.

Fucking Liverpool bastards

Bazunu getting a lot of flak for that first goal yesterday. I think he’s a bit overrated but I also think that shot was travelling at ferocious pace and he couldn’t do much more than he did.

Tis hard to be a young keeper in the top flight

Bar save it?

This is lifted from an Athletic article about Meslier the Leeds keeper. Basic premise is he’s letting in more goals than he should be. They used expected goals as a measure vs actual goals. I know expected goals is a bit of a nonsense number but it gives a consistent bar across all teams. It doesn’t paint a very good picture for Gav Baz or Travers though which you’d worry about
