LET US B

The Vassil Levski stadium in Sofia has been the site of some of the more prominent “we woz robbed” occasions in Irish football history. In 1977 Johnny Giles had a perfectly good goal disallowed after Steve Heighway did wreck down the left wing and the result pretty much did for qualification for Argentina 78.

10 years later was nearly worse. Mick McCarthy (ironically) was mauled to the ground to create space for the opening Bulgarian goal. Frank Stapleton scored a scuttery equaliser early in the 2nd half before Kevin Moran tripped Anjo Sadkov about 5 or 6 yards outside the box only for the notorious Carlos Silva Valente to award the inevitable penalty, which proved the winner.

Does Nations League impact World Cup play off prospects?

Yes.

If Ireland stay up they could end up in a group with Israel and Northern Ireland.

Nothing in that article (bar Courell) suggests that Ireland will gain an automatic slot.

It merely increases their chances from 3 out of 5 to 3 out of 4. There is also no inclination that any of the games allocated to NI will be reallocated to the Republic, just wishful conjecture.
