Irish soccerball nil - Troy Parrott to the rescue (Part 2)

Aye, I get that, but this lad is another realm altogether.

Let’s give him another few years. He’s 24. What do you want him to have an opinion on? The Ukraine etc? If he doesn’t piss his money away then he won’t have been that thick. He does have the standard footballer attributes with the tattoos etc. I know that there are some smart footballers out there even at a young age. (Hector Belerin of Betis for example).
I know of some Irish lads who played in lower leagues in England, and invested wisely, mainly in property. They would have been making handy enough money, but not set for life money. Ethically, property investments might not be the best thing to be doing these days, but someone advised them well. In fact property investments could be considered cuntish.

Shocking

Most top 5 league footballers in Europe are very intelligent. The level of discipline and dedication it takes to make it is off the charts. Talent is not enough. The Moroccan kid Man City just signed is currentlly doing a Maths degree, this kind of thing is going to become more and more prevalent. Parrott exhibited poor judgement earlier in his career with who he associated with, but I don’t think he has ever done anything to suggest he wasn’t intelligent.

Top sports players tend to be of above average intelligence really. Look at Clifford in any interview for one, you will never, ever catch him saying something he doesn’t intend to say.

Big Will the same this championship.

He did a course in Tralee and got into PE teaching through the backdoor so you might be overstating that a bit but it’s not all about book smarts. Jack McCaffrey and Shane O’ Donnell are the archetypal sports people who excel in academia too.

I wouldn’t say it’s common amongst English footballers. The likes of Foden, Palmer, Grealish etc. wouldn’t strike you as intellectual types. The Spaniards are a different kettle of fish alright. Just look at Rodri and Juan Mata.

I was watching a clip of Bellingham earlier and I was genuinely surprised he could name every champions league winner back as far as 86.

I think he’s probably one of thoe young fellas who was sports mad and matured a bit later. He carries himself nd speaks well whenever I hear him. He’s doing the figurehead bit a long time and he’ll very possibly be principal somewhere some time so it will be interesting.

He named all of them back to Madrid in 1955-56. Incredible recall for a fella who’d only remember 2011 onwards.

I think Bellingham is highly intelligent, driven and disciplined to the extant he rubs people up the wrong way. Very indepedendent minded sort of guy. He is part of the generation of the player being the cult of personality(Messi/Ronaldo), Youtube and clips more than watching maatches.

Didnt Harry Redknapp once say of his West Ham team that if those lads weren’t footballers they’d probably all be in jail

He probably did but they’re competing with the entire world now to get over and get the bag.

Parrott did well for another goal there. Not known for it but both the goals this week he’s just bullied the defenders physically
