I still canāt believe that happenedā¦I left to go out to dinner with 6/7 mins on the clock thinking weāre there, job doneā¦ I couldnāt believe it when I found out later that night. I still canātā¦ Iāve never seen that goal.
Jack and Sir Bobby were two of the finest men their country and sport ever produced. Gave so much joy and happiness to fans of Leeds, Man U, England, Eire and sports fans in general. Sad that they fell out it would appear essentially because their wives didnāt get along.
RIP Jack. A charismatic figure who did more for the nation than anyone else. The players over the years helped of course but Jack was an appropriate figurehead.
Heady days that will be forever etched in the memories of those of us lucky enough to have lived through them. Not a good guy, a great guy.
Denis Irwin is to blame.
Put em under pressure just came on the radio about 10 mins ago while I was out in the car. Full volume windows down for the chorus. Fuck itā¦ had to do it this once. Got a good few salutes and cheers
RIP Jack
I was with a group of friends in a pub on Camden St, Sinnottās maybe? Anyway we were all planning to go to Holland and Belgium as 4 out of the 7 of us had gone to France two years earlier and the cunts were still going on about it. Drunk to the gills they scored and we couldnāt believe it, it was like a nightmare. Havenāt seen the goal since. Might look it up there, think Iām okay to see it now. From what I remember Denis Irwin could have done better
Edit: watched it there, not Irwins fault, just him remonstrating with whoever should have picked up the scorer. Still hurts

The team got a break thanks to a SHOM player in Sofia but over the piece I think we deserved to go . Christ it was hard to qualify for the euros them . The performance v a good Scotch team at Hampden was brilliant .
We were a bit unlucky not to go to Euros in 1992 . Failure to beat Poland undid us . The performance v England at Wembley was amazing .
france 98 - ah we were poor in the qualifiers and luc nilis did us up like a kipper ( remember in 96/97 we lost something like 9 games in a row including a draw in liechtenstein the day i was playing an east cork final v erins own and the day before gary kirbyās thumb was broken
euro 2000 - we werent good enough , croatia were a lot better and despite beating what was left of yugoslavia in dublin they beat us in belgrade
WC2002 - an incredible odyssey - what a team
that was it for mick

@Ashman
can you recall any of the mexico 86 campaign?
i have a memory of watching a qualifier in belgium in the de kuip stadium id say and i was maybe 6
can anyone recall the 1984 euros campaign? from reading these were great sides deemed very very unlucky
I think Charlton once said if we had Roy Keane in 1990 we would have won the World Cup.
Always thought if we had qualified for Euro 92, could have really gone far
Team possibly at its peak then
Vaguely . I remember beating the Rooskies at Lansdowne ( Micky Walsh ??) and the whole thing petered out after that . I remember a bad hiding off the great Denmark team at Lansdowne. I attended that .
Not sure whelan played many of the qualifiers did he? He was captain of Liverpool when they won cup in 92 so obviously wasnt finished or anything in 1990. Dunphy was definitely raging Townsend on ahead of him.
I used to think the players dunphy championed the most were always irish born. He definitely had a thing about Jack and the plastic paddies. The anti dunphy thing at the time was a real measure of jacks popularity. I remember seeing a wanted sign for dunphy behind the bar in a pub when I went in for coke and crisps after mass. āCrimes against the Irish nationā . Immortalised by Roddy Doyle too. The contrarian stuff dunph went on with would be par for the course nowadays. He was the original tfker

oh we could have
england drew 0-0 with a poor france, beaten by a very poor sweden and i cant remember who were the middle team in that goup-
the german team got to the final , a side who we beat in hannover in 1994 and was very much in transition
we could have won that fucking tournament
We lost to Denmark in Dublin in ā85 I think? Johnny Sievebeck scored?
Think that Belgium game was start of the 88 campaign. First Ireland game I remember watching. 2 all Brady got a late penalty.
Tony/Toni Polster.
All the union jackās out. The tans donāt really understand, do they?
Was it Euro 84 qualifying we were robbed by Belgium/the ref?
