January Transfer Window Thread

From todays Telegraph

El Mundo newspaper reports that Pedro Trapote, who they claim is an associate of Real President Ramn Caldern, let the details of the deal slip in a conversation with journalists.

Real’s pursuit of the Ballon D’Or winner dominated the summer. But United eventually claimed victory, fending off interest from the reigning Spanish champions, despite the Portuguese winger professing a desire to one day wear the white shirt of the Madrid club.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson became increasingly frustrated by the tactics of the Spanish club, who often used the Madrid-based press to leak information and aid the capture of high profile transfer targets.

Caldern claimed at the end of the summer that Real would not pursue the player again until United were willing to do business though maintained the club were still interested in the player.

But El Mundo look to have reignited the row ahead of the January transfer window.

“If you are asking me what we are going to do now then I would tell you that we have already signed the best player for the summer,” Trapote is quoted as saying after Real’s recent league defeat to Barcelona.

It is unclear if he knew the conversation was being recorded.

“The best of the best. It is Cristiano, there is no other. It is better that we do not say anything at the moment though."

“Why can you not say anything. It is the best time because things are going badly and people need something to excite them in the middle of all this,” suggested the reporter.

“No,” replied Trapote, “it is best to not say anything because there are some clauses that prevent us from announcing it now. For us it would be a good time, but should not do that. But it is not bad, eh?”

The veracity of the report has yet to be confirmed by either club but Ferguson is likely to be enraged by the timing of the leak as he prepares his side to play in the Club World Cup in Japan before returning to England to a busy domestic programme and a probable large points deficit in the Premier League.

Again from the Telegraph

  1. Kaka (AC Milan -Manchester City)
City’s Abu Dhabi owners have underlined their intentions to secure a marquee name in January and Kaka, Milan’s playmaker and talisman, has indicated he would be amenable to a move should the right offer (around 70 million) move.
  1. Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus - Manchester City)
In place of the talented but raw Joe Hart City are targeting Buffon, for several seasons the most consistently impressive goalkeeper in Europe.

  2. Zoran Tosic (Partizan Belgrade – Manchester United)
Quick and powerful, Tosic is in United’s sights and would end their long quest to find a natural heir to Ryan Giggs on the left wing.

  3. Yaya Toure (Barcelona- Arsenal)
Aerial presence and ball-winning ability would make him the perfect complement in Arsenal defence for elder brother Kolo.

  4. Vincenzo Iaquinta (Juventus - Arsenal)
In formidable form, the 28-year-old would compensate for the Arsenal squad’s conspicuous lack of experience.

  5. Darijo Srna (Shakhtar Donetsk -Tottenham)
The Croatia winger would give an injection of pace to Harry Redknapp’s team, but Liverpool are also reportedly interested.

  6. Andre-Pierre Gignac (Toulouse -Tottenham)
Despite the resurgence of Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko Redknapp ideally requires another centre-forward and the dynamic 23-year-old striker could be his answer.

  7. Fernando Cavenaghi (Bordeaux – Liverpool)
The 25-year-old forward has been in superb form for Bordeaux having scored 22 goals in his debut season; would shore up Liverpool’s squad given that they are set to lose Daniel Agger to Milan.

  8. John Arne Riise (Roma- Newcastle)
Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear hinted heavily that he could move for Riise, the former Liverpool left-back, when he said of a name on his transfer shortlist: “One is with Roma and he is not in the team at the moment.”

  9. Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy- Everton)
A 5 million move has been suggested and the Galaxy striker has already been contacted by Everton, with a view to a loan; he is sorely needed with Aiyegbeni Yakubu out for the season.

Not a great time to be a Portsmouth fan

Lauren predicts Pompey exodus
Thursday, 18 December 2008 14:26

Portsmouth defender Lauren reckons England internationals Jermain Defoe and Glen Johnson could follow Real Madrid-bound Lassana Diarra out of Fratton Park and rejoin former manager Harry Redknapp at Tottenham in January.

Pompey have given Madrid permission to talk to France midfielder Diarra after accepting a ‘substantial’ bid from the Spanish giants, reported to be in the region of 20million.

Lauren believes the Portsmouth team that won last season’s FA Cup is being ‘dismantled’ and he thinks former Pompey boss Redknapp is waiting to take full advantage by signing Defoe and Johnson.

He told Spanish newspaper AS: 'The team is being dismantled and the big teams are coming in. Not only is it Diarra, there is Defoe, who could return to Tottenham, to whom Glen Johnson is also going to go. The economic situation is very bad, we are already aware of this.

‘Look at the signings that were made in the last two years.
They brought me, (Sol) Campbell, Kanu, (Peter) Crouch, Defoe, (Pedro) Mendes, who has already gone to Rangers. Of these, the great majority are going to go.’

Lauren also lists himself among the players who are possibly on their way out, adding: ‘Me as well. In January. It’s Turkey or Greece.’

Defoe played under Redknapp at West Ham and joined Portsmouth from Spurs last January for a fee reportedly in the region of 7.5million, while Johnson also learned his trade at the Hammers before joining Chelsea in 2003.

Portsmouth are 8/1 to be relegated. Could be the bet of the year if these players leave cos they don’t have a whole lot left behind them.

Steve Finnan to Spurs.

Breaking news on SSN:

Jimmy Bullard has been told he can leave Fulham in january

What about The Tatted Taff Bellemy saying that, though he’d like to go back some time, that Celtic couldn’t afford him or his wages at the moment. Honest at least.

It’s a real shame. Celtic and Bellamy were good together but we’re signing Hernan Crespo in January so I’m not too disappointed.

Ye could hardly afford the wages Crespo would be looking for…He would want 60 grand a week at the minimum…Although he would be a class signing for celtic, some finisher…Who is he at these days…

18 month loan deal from Internazionale - Celtic and Inter splitting the wages 50/50 until his contract with them expires.

He could have the potential to be as big a hit as larsson in scotland…Surprised if it did happen…

Emile Heskey should provide a good foil for him when he joins on a Bosman in the summer.

TFK exclusive or another Torresesq announcement by Bandage?

Jermaine Pennant to Real Madrid for 3.5m apparently.

Was just about to post that in the Things that are wrong thread.

Stuart Downing and Steven Hunt are both being linked with Spurs today…Bellamy to Man City slso

Michel Arteta is being linked with a 12 million pound move to Arsenal…While pompey look like they are going to be raped of their better players, Glen Johnson being linked with Liverpool and Spurs while Defoe is being linked with Spurs and Villa

not sure if that wuld be a good move for the SPL reject arteta

He is a good player but I don’t think I would spend 12 million on him…

A few more rumours today:

  • Michael Owen’s being lined up by Inter Milan.
  • Manchester City are close to agreeing a deal for Blackburn’s Roque Santa Cruz.
  • Kolo Toure has had a massive falling out with Arsene Wenger and wants to leave Arsenal.
  • Real Madrid are being linked with Inter Milan’s wide player Mancini.
  • Juventus are watching Sporting midfielder Miguel Veloso very closely.

Has any cunt signed for anyone yet?

The Arsenal Chairman has confirmed that Kolo Toure submitted a transfer request but they’ve turned it down. I’m not sure what’s prompted this falling out as he was previously a key player for them.

Hibernian’s Steven Fletcher is being linked with a 2.5m move to Middlesboro’.

Manchester City are chasing Wayne Bridge now too.

Portsmouth have said Jermaine Defoe can leave if the price is right. West Ham say anyone can leave if the price is right.
