January Transfer Window Thread

Fair play to Phil Brown he seems to be a bit of a wheeler dealer

Hull City have agreed a deal with Manchester United to take Angola striker Manucho on loan for the rest of the season.

The Tigers are still to obtain a work permit for the 25-year-old but hope to receive one in time for him to feature against Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League tomorrow.

Manucho is Hull’s second arrival of the January transfer window, following yesterday’s permanent signing of winger Kevin Kilbane from Wigan.

Manager Phil Brown also hopes to add former Liverpool defender Steve Finnan to his squad, but a deal is unlikely to be finalised today.

Hull have agreed a fee with Espanyol. But Finnan, 32, has been beset by injuries since leaving Anfield for Spain five months ago and is undergoing a stringent medical.

Brown said: 'It is a long way from being completed.

'He has been injured, and I think he has only played four games for Espanyol - which is a concern of ours; hence the reason he has undergone a medical to the extent he has.

‘We are pulling out all the stops. We are making sure we are doing this one properly.’

The signing of Manucho comes after Sunderland’s recall of defender Paul McShane earlier in the week freed up one of Hull’s two domestic loan slots. Wigan forward Marlon King, who is on a season-long loan, continues to fill the other.

Manucho joined United a year ago but spent part of last season on loan at Panathinaikos while he awaited a work permit. He has since struggled to break into the United side and has made just one Premier League appearance.

He follows the path of another United striker, Fraizer Campbell, who played a key role in Hull’s promotion last season after a loan move to the KC Stadium.

Brown said: 'The lad is a proven goalscorer at certain levels, though not yet at Premier League level.

'He is 6ft 3in, 6ft 4in, great stature; he has a good eye for goal and is certainly good aerially. He has a presence about him.

‘He hasn’t got the pace of Fraizer Campbell, but we hope he has the goalscoring instincts.’

Brown’s transfer activity is unlikely to end there. Attempts to sign Luis Boa Morte and Dean Whitehead appear to have broken down, but other options are being explored.

Brown added: ‘We have got one or two irons in the fire, one or two quotes in with various clubs in England and abroad.’

There is no chance of Rangers striker Kris Boyd joining Lazio, according to the Italian club’s chairman Claudio Lotito.

The Serie A side were yesterday linked with a move for Boyd, with general manager Igli Tare saying: ‘It’s true. Boyd is a very, very effective player and we are well aware of his situation in Glasgow.’

But Lotito claims he has never heard of the 25-year-old, who has smashed in 20 goals in his last 22 games.

Lotito told the Daily Mail: ‘Who is Kris Boyd? This is the first time I have heard this name. Nothing will happen with him.’

Boyd looked set to join Birmingham last week after Rangers agreed a 3million-plus fee with the Coca-Cola Championship high fliers.

The move broke down over personal terms but Blues boss Alex McLeish, who bought Boyd from Kilmarnock when he was manager at Ibrox has continually refused to rule out the deal being resurrected.

He said: 'I have a good rapport with Kris and I know he would like to play for me.

'He has played well for me in the past but, if the circumstances are not right for him, then we have to move on.

‘But I am still looking to bring in a new striker as we are goal-shy.’

Rangers’ sanctioning of Boyd’s sale has angered some of the club’s fans, who this week criticised the board’s transfer policy as part of a wide-ranging attack.

Chairman Sir David Murray insists a prize asset must be sacrificed if the club are to plug a 4million hole in their finances.

Finnan’s transfer is off having failed the medical

Thats not good news…

Aberdeen have signed 19-year old right back Javan Vidal on loan from Manchester City in time for Saturday’s clash with global giants Celtic.

I’m surprised City are letting Vidal go on loan so soon.

Wilson Palcious off to Tottenham for 14m!

Do clubs care about value for money anymore?

A good player from what I have seen of him but I would say just about worth half that.

Rovers sign Bradley and Cahill
Friday, 16 January 2009 16:08

Shamrock Rovers have signed Stephen Bradley and Ollie Cahill, while Simon Madden has agreed to extend his stay at the club.

With the Hoops’ imminent move to Tallaght, new boss Michael O’Neill has begun to put together his squad

O’Neill said: 'While we have some very good players at Rovers, the squad is slightly young in certain areas.

‘The arrival of Ollie Cahill will be of great benefit to the players.’

Cahill has enjoyed a glittering career with spells at Cork City, Shelbourne and Drogheda United.

‘As well as having a lot of experience, Ollie also knows what’s required to be winner,’ declared O’Neill.

‘He is a versatile left-sided player. He’s a great signing.’

Bradley joins Rovers following last year’s frustrating move to Scottish club Falkirk from Drogheda United - where he starred alongside Cahill.

‘Stephen comes to Rovers after what was a difficult period for him,’ said the former Brechin City manager.

'I knew him from Falkirk and, without question, he is a quality player.

‘He was a success at Drogheda, he’s a Tallaght native, so he was keen to come and we wanted him. It’s a great opportunity to kick-start his career and we’re delighted to have him here.’

Good man Ncc, always first with the breaking news

Given that this thread is devoted to over-priced, over-paid, often over-weight and always over-popularised purveyors of the round ball, on at most a 4.5 hr. week for an income that would sustain a modest economy, I’m surprised this thread has gone 22 pages.

There is a certain amount of joy to see another club bidding for Chelsea’s big players, while it will come to nothing it puts manners on the cunts, im all for it
