Fair play to Phil Brown he seems to be a bit of a wheeler dealer
Hull City have agreed a deal with Manchester United to take Angola striker Manucho on loan for the rest of the season.
The Tigers are still to obtain a work permit for the 25-year-old but hope to receive one in time for him to feature against Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League tomorrow.
Manucho is Hull’s second arrival of the January transfer window, following yesterday’s permanent signing of winger Kevin Kilbane from Wigan.
Manager Phil Brown also hopes to add former Liverpool defender Steve Finnan to his squad, but a deal is unlikely to be finalised today.
Hull have agreed a fee with Espanyol. But Finnan, 32, has been beset by injuries since leaving Anfield for Spain five months ago and is undergoing a stringent medical.
Brown said: 'It is a long way from being completed.
'He has been injured, and I think he has only played four games for Espanyol - which is a concern of ours; hence the reason he has undergone a medical to the extent he has.
‘We are pulling out all the stops. We are making sure we are doing this one properly.’
The signing of Manucho comes after Sunderland’s recall of defender Paul McShane earlier in the week freed up one of Hull’s two domestic loan slots. Wigan forward Marlon King, who is on a season-long loan, continues to fill the other.
Manucho joined United a year ago but spent part of last season on loan at Panathinaikos while he awaited a work permit. He has since struggled to break into the United side and has made just one Premier League appearance.
He follows the path of another United striker, Fraizer Campbell, who played a key role in Hull’s promotion last season after a loan move to the KC Stadium.
Brown said: 'The lad is a proven goalscorer at certain levels, though not yet at Premier League level.
'He is 6ft 3in, 6ft 4in, great stature; he has a good eye for goal and is certainly good aerially. He has a presence about him.
‘He hasn’t got the pace of Fraizer Campbell, but we hope he has the goalscoring instincts.’
Brown’s transfer activity is unlikely to end there. Attempts to sign Luis Boa Morte and Dean Whitehead appear to have broken down, but other options are being explored.
Brown added: ‘We have got one or two irons in the fire, one or two quotes in with various clubs in England and abroad.’
