Will one of you bhoys give me an update on the Meath match. I think it should be starting round now.
Just arrived in Argentina. Rio was good craic. Got to see two matches but unfortunately none in the Maracana. Didn{t even get to go round it as its closed to public for renovation for the Pan American games starting on the 13th July. A bit gutted about that.
Went to Fluminese v Botafogo in the opening of the new Olympic Stadium in Rio last week. Craicing atmosphere, man these guys are so passionate about footie its mad. Got some great pics, I{ll update them on my bebo in a few days. The match itself was great to watch, so much faster then european football, non stop action. When a lad was fouled his team mate would take the free and contimue with the game while the guy injured would be getting treatment. Botafogo won 2-1 after going 1-0 down in the first half. Had money on them winning 3-1!! They missed about 4,5 sitters in the last few minutes. 2 guys got sent off, one for each team and this was proper sending off, no soft cards. Both were two footed tackles right through the player. The captain of the Fluminese team got headbutted and elbowed in the face and the ref waved play on!!
Last wednesday went to Vasco Da Gama v Santos. Santos are managed by Luxemburgo and ofcourse Romario is with Vasco. But unfortunately since he scored his 1000th goal he doesn{t really play anymore. He was at the match though in the dugout. Santos were all of Vasco in the first half. They were trying to walk the ball into the net though and Vasco got a cracking goal on the break. They ended up hammering Santos 4-0. A mini riot between the home and away fans in the far stand at halftime was eventul with the riot police taking no prisoners. An interesting mention was all the IRA graffitti on the way to the stadium and as you will see in the photos banners with IRA JOVEM on the them. I{m trying to find out what that means. Best player on the park was a lad called Conca (number 8 for Vasco).
Anyway hoping to get a Boca Juniors/River Plate match and a Nacional/Penerol game in aswell. Not too sure if their seasons are finished or not though.
