Getting a very easy time from the Irish media in my opinion. He’s had it tough with the race fixing allegations and I wouldn’t judge him on that until the process has been completed but he’s just tested positive for drugs and all the talk is of “trace amounts” and “environmental contact” and “will the ban be enforced worldwide?”
We’re quick enough to condemn foreign stars in athletics, cycling etc. who test positive for drugs. When it’s a bit closer to home we don’t want to know though.
How would Fallon taking drugs enhance his performances at all. Maybe he could whip the horse faster. Its of no benefit. Fook it if he’s taking anything. I cant see any correlation between drugs and horse racing
There’s feck all correlation between drugs and cricket either but Shane Warne was rightly banned for his transgressions in the past. There is obviously a huge degree of stamina required to be a top flat jockey and I’d imagine drugs could be used to dampen the effects of a tough race on a jockey before his next race a few minutes later. Not saying this was what Fallon was doing - we don’t even know the type of drug involved: recreational or not - but the whole integrity of a sport is undermined when drug taking is tolerated: cycling being an obvious example, but sports such as baseball where it wouldn’t be as obvious to the layman 10 years ago has had its reputation and records ruined.
