Kilkenny Hurling

Are the Holdens mentioned there related to the Holdens of Knockbrown, between Mullinavat and Hugginstown?

What previous success of managing teams had Brian Cody before he took over the senior team.

Club? Underage KK team?

Managed James Stephens senior team. Think he got them to a final.

Was their Manager for several years and was a completely unsuccessful period with arguably the greatest conveyor belt of talent at underage the county has ever witnessed.
Think he was in charge in '96 when they lost a replay to Gowran.

Relegated to Intermediate in 1995 (needlessly, it was felt).

Won Intermediate in 1997. Senior 1998-.

2018 was Ballyhale Shamrocks’ 47th season. 42 of those seasons were at Senior, a spell that has yielded 16 Senior titles and seven Club All Irelands.

Yes. Same family. The original Holden homeplace is in Knockbrown (and in parish of Mullinavat). Joey Holden’s homeplace is two or three fields away in Knockmoylan (and in parish of Ballyhale).

The Schuttes’ grandfather came out of Knockbrown.

He was a player selector when James Stephens won 1981 Senior Final and 1982 Club Ireland.

So far as adult success goes, I think those titles are about it. He might have been involved with successful underage Village teams – probably was – but not clued in on that end of matters.

Well, the 1978-91 team won nine Senior titles and three Club All Irelands in 14 seasons.

The 2005-18 team has won seven Senior titles and four Club All Irelands in 14 seasons.

So… Much of a muchness.

And much wants more… The view in the club is that we should have won at least two more Senior titles 2010-2017. Probably should have won four more, in fact. But different things happened in different seasons. 2013 saw, among its factors, 2012’s victorious first choice midfield of Michael Fennelly and Éamonn Walsh unavailable through injury.

That’s where I was going with this, and one of them married to the Fennellys

An excellent question – but a savage difficult task.

One crux would be that you have Ger Fennelly, Michael Fennelly Jr and Cha Fitzpatrick for two midfield places.

Full back would also be a tough one.

Yes, correct. Liam Fennelly built in Knockbrown, which is why their offspring hurl with Mullinavat.

My auld fella grew up across the fields from them

In Aghavillar or in Ballyhale or in Mullinavat? The three parishes meet there: Keatingstown, Knockmoylan, Knockbrown.

Red Acres, Mullinavat

Ah right… I more or less know where that townland is. Earlier on the back road up from the hurling pitch?

Yep, right next to Knockbrown

Cha in the half forward line then Ger and Mick midfield.

Yes. My thought as well.

Badly need a premium ticket. Any of my tfk buddies able to sort me out?

I’ve had premium and/or Corporate tickets for most of the KK/Tipp finals over the past 10 years and at no point have had to display tickets for scanning etc.

Would expect you could manipulate a similar situation quite easily.
