Ah i get that. I’d much rather be playing 5 aside in the lashing rain in mid winter then watching sport on tv. You can’t bate being out being active.

I suppose my greatest sport was bedding women which is an indoor game largely. I must have a body count near 2000 but I’ve no trophies for it.

Like I said, sport is the tip of the iceberg but it seemed relevant as it was a very easy comparison to make.
Incidentally Joe Player would have taken a lot more joy out of his overcoming obstacles to achieve his MA than he would have from anyone else’s sports achievement,
I don’t look down on anybody, I just don’t believe them, and if I do then I’ve got to say that they’ve lived a very shallow life.
Being proud of your kids achievements more than that of a group of random lads from your county is not living vicariously through them either, your kids pleasure means more than you’ll understand till you have to.

And it’s hard to properly understand the joys that can really bring until you’ve a kid with genuine challenges or special needs. It’s all levels as they say. But then again I don’t think anyone can tell others what they should or shouldn’t find joy in if it’s harming no one else. I think wed all agree with that

I’ve taken great pleasure from watching Cork win all Irelands, 13 in my lifetime I think.
But it’s nowhere near the pleasure you’d achieve from more personal things, and particularly the disappointment and heartache.

I’ll never know… When someone says they’re not really into sport or moreso music i just mentally check out. They’re not my people. The two fundamental things to human culture since we began to form societies is sport and music. Music and sport are the divine. Even Jesus played sport.
