Fr Alec Reid, in his Clonard Monastery on the Falls Rd used facilitate unofficial peace meetings between Republicans and unionists. Adams, Hume et al would be in attendance in an effort to reduce the temperature that was at boiling point. A very noble act to reduce the bloodshed. I am reminded of his bravery and conviction today with some excellent interventions on here. We had a what you could call a truth commission of sorts but hopefully we can build lasting peace on this forum and our children can grow up free from the baggage and bitterness that has divided us for so long.

It was a stealthy enough operation he ran trying to thread the needle between both sides.
Catholic priests wouldnt have always been seen as honest brokers by either side really so speaks volumes about the man. He doesnt get enough credit in the final shake up.
