the linesman was a disgrace in the first half against Real…disallowed 2 perfectly good goals for offside…2 shocking defences on display…
Barca beat Almeria 5-0 tonight to go top of La Liga. They were actually 5-0 up after 37 minutes and Eto’o got a hat-trick. Valencia, Sevilla, Villarreal and Real Madrid can all jump ahead of them tomorrow though - it’s shaping up to be a good, close league.
Some cracking goals they got - up on TFKTube now.
“Like a big, beautiful, white snowball rolling down a snowy hill” - metaphor of the year.
“Iniesta with those beautiful bulging eyes”.
Who the fuck is that guy???
I’ve no idea Thrawneen but that first quote is a simile not a metaphor.
Smashingly weird commentary though.

You’re right. I should really be knowing that. Simile of the year so.
Some game last night between Villarreal and Atletico Madrid. I only saw half an hour of it from just after half time up to the 80th minute when Villarreal scored 4 goals to overturn a 2-goal half time deficit. Just checked the final score now and 10-man Atletico got 2 goals in the last 10 minutes. Cazorla was sensational for the part I watched. I’m pretty sure these two have had some mad games in recent seasons - there was a 4-3 game last year that was nuts too.
Another one of these ever increasing instances of athletes collapsing during competition. Luckily, he seems to be alright.

Soccer-Real midfielder De la Red collapses during Cup match
Real Madrid’s Spain midfielder Ruben de la Red collapsed and was taken to hospital during their King’s Cup last 32, first leg tie at Real Union on Thursday.
In the 13th minute, De la Red was running back to towards the halfway line when, without anyone in close proximity, he suddenly fell face first on to the pitch and lay motionless.
Medical staff were quickly in attendance and he showed signs of movement as he was carried off on stretcher.
Spanish media reports said the 23-year-old had recovered consciousness after a drop in blood pressure and had to be taken to a local hospital in Irun.
Mental game there, with Real Madrid coming from behind to beat Malaga 4-3 and Higuain scoring all 4 goals. Ramos was sent off in the first half for the 9th time in 4 seasons for trodding on a lad’s chest. 3 penalties in the game - 2 for Real and 1 for Malaga - and Higuain knocked in the winner from a rebound after a saved pen.
Barca just about to kick-off against Valladolid.
Barca are playing some great stuff these days. 2-0 up after an Eto’o brace and Messi’s in great form.
Fook me. Eto’o’s just matched Higuain from earlier and scored 4 goals, but his have all been in the first half. Messi’s at the heart of everything and Barca are irresistible. 4-0 at half time.
6-0 against a team who had only conceded 11 in 9 previous games.
I really had my doubts about Guardiola but he seems to be doing a super job.
Schuster will surely get the bullet now. Lost 1-0 to Real Valladolid. Who Barca beat 6-0 last week.
My dad got me a copy of World Soccer when I was about 6 or 7. 1988/9. It had news of Ireland’s friendly against Tunisia in the stats section. It had pictures of Terry Butcher covered in blood after that qualifier against Sweden and also an article on Bernd Schuster. I took an instant dislike to him. I hated his moustache and the fact he wouldn’t play for West Germany. So I’m quite happy if he gets sacked.
Sevilla-Valenica has just kicked off.
Villarreal have been turned over 3-0 at home to Valladolid. Some win for them after beating Real Madrid last week.
Real beat Recreativo 1-0, with a Wesley Sneijder goal.
Getafe are leading Real Madrid 2-1 with 10 minutes to go. Saviola pulled a goal back after an hour but Getafe have been doing all the attacking since. Iker Casillas is all over the place - he’s having a poor season by his standards and was shocking for the second goal. Just as I type, Uche has made it 3-1 with a great breakaway goal. Schuster could be on his way soon.
Sevilla-Barca kicking off at 9pm.
Barca 1-0 up at half time but Sevilla should have had a pen and also hit the bar - Kanioute involved in both incidents. Entertaining stuff though - Eto’o got the goal and it was a quality finish. He’s completely transformed from the half-interested, half-injured player that we saw last season. Dani Alves and Keita got decent receptions on their return to Seville - I was hoping for blood. Ah well. I’m expecting more goals as Barca remain uncertain with Pique and Marquez at the back but they’re very dangerous going forward.
A lovely goal by Messi to make it 2-0 before Luis Fabiano was sent off for throwing a couple of punches. He’s extremely talented but very much a nutter. Barca have dominated the second half and look really strong. Just as I type, Messi’s got another really class goal. What a player.
Messi’s goals:
What a player he is.
Is Schuster still not talking to his players?
barcelona are 3-0 up against valencia 10 minutes into the second half, playing some lovely football…good to see Guardiola getting the best out of them…always had great time for him as a player
