Can play with both. It’s happened on the men’s side.
Gleghorne ,Sloan and Ames made the switch. They’d to sit out for 3 years because they’d caps for us.
There was high profile one recently. Gonzalo Peillat is one of the best drag flickers in the world. Played with Argentina, then fell out with management. Sat out for 3 years, now plays with the Germans
As a sport it’s a tough watch. When you see them playing 5-a-side games at training you can see the skill levels involved but the number of spectators there today reflect the sports overall appeal. I saw Irelands most capped player doing 30 minutes in a junior hurling match earlier this summer - he was undoubtedly a loss to hurling but the hockey took him to more glamorous places than the Down club scene would.
Any time I watch hockey I’m completely confused about what is a foul and what isn’t. Seems completely random to my uneducated eyes but obviously isn’t.
Hockey as a sport has to be the biggest underachiever I can think of. It has the potential to be a very good sport but the penalty corner stuff ruins it. The goals need to be bigger and the obsession with penalty corners needs to be abolished. The ball is probably too hard as well. The stick needs to be modifed to look more like a hurley and you need to be able use both sides of it. The pitch should be grass and you need to be able to raise the stick above waist height.
The ladies hockey team in World Cup action against Spain now. Didn’t realise they use Ireland’s Call like their rugby brethren.
The lovely Chloe Watkins is retired now and on punditry duty. I hope @mickee321 young lad kept up the hockey and met a daughter of some Big 4 stakeholder.
