Four weeks in and Iām already ready to perform a trademark volte face on the Kielty project.
When Patrick Kielty did PK Tonight in 1995-96 he was bold and challenging. That show was 50% borrowed from Noelās House Party but it was also a deeply acerbic, equal opportunities lampooning of Northern Irish society, which Kielty knew deeply.
But Kielty is no longer the same person, and he is not a good interviewer. He doesnāt know the questions to ask. He looks nervous and itās the Stephen Kenny type of nervous. Thereās no flow from his speech. The Late Late Show is not supposed to be the Graham Norton Show. It can encompass light entertainment but it needs to tell you something about Irish society. It canāt just be a light entertainment show. If thereās somebody in the background who is intent on making it a cheap knock off of the Graham Norton Show, that is a problem. But there are other bizarre decisions. Weeks 2 and 3 had no musical guests. Week 1 had one musical guest doing one song. Week 4 was a pointless sop to the BMW region.
Weāre already at the Stephen Kennyās Ireland losing 1-0 to Finland away from home with a goal conceded by a disastrous attempt to play out from the kickout by Darren Randolph stage.
No. Checked it out there. Never heard it before thankfully.
Thought the long forgotten Bogey Boys (guitarist Jimmy Smith was a brother of Country and Irish icon Gloria) had done a song of the same name but I canāt find a reference to it anywhere.
