Leinster Senior Schools Cup Rugby - Official Thread

I’d say it will rip the hearts out of the Belvo boys to know that.

Belvo supplied two thirds of the half back line to the 2013 Dublin All Ireland Football winning team.

Have to say that that was the worst Leinster Schools competition that I can recall. Grunting forward play was the order of the day. Not a single promising back on view. No-one of the class of a Gary Ringrose or a Billy Dardis or a Brian O’Driscoll.

As opposed to some stick stick mullocker from Tipp? No comparison.

Rugby football is dead.

Dublin hurler Cian Boland is a Belvederean.

Is that the Brian O’Driscoll chap who sat on the bench all through the Barry Gibney led cup win for Blackrock in 1996 and who a year later had an absolute stinker against Clongowes in the 1997 semi final, missing 4 drop goal chances late in the game to hand victory to Clongowes?

Yes that’s him.

T’interrnational agin’ Wales replicated this view. Grunts, primarily the baldy Limerick bollocks, shovelled forward, prior to collapsing without gaining traction. Second phase usually involved that Nordie, Best tagging onto O’Brien’s hole (pardon the pun) and yet those pit-head/dockers/postmen pushed us out wide, where Warburton, on a 2nd. phase sally, clamped the infiltrators.

Rugby is fucked in Ireland into the future. Mercifully.

He didn’t actually. He started in the 1st round game on the wing in place of an injured player and was dropped after.
Interesting that he couldn’t get into Belvo.

From the Irish Times- Not surprised with Tipp folk
The only stain on this captivating contest was the heavy handed work of match stewards as Roscrea fans attempted to get on the field afterwards. Leinster argued they are tenants at the RDS and avoiding injury was their main aim. A few young men, trying to embrace friends as the Roscrea team ran towards them, will have bruises this morning though

And funded by the Connacht Branch. Roscrea’s enrollment has fallen through the toilet in recent years but somehow the rugby has magically improved.

I saw their ad during the game yesterday, not a bad idea. They had Willie Mullins included to attract the mucksavages and have bought rugby success to attract some of the wannabe elite. Clongowes must be worried, they’re coming for their target market.

A full time rugby coach and a rugby scholarship program will achieve that.

All the Mullins cousins went to school there over the last 10+ years. They have an ownership syndicate set up to benefit the school. Vesper Bell & the Midnight Club would be the most prominent horses they held.

Roscrea had 178 pupils enrolled in 2013 - just 30 per year on average, though of course it’s always tilted towards the older years in boarding schools. Average size in the top 16 or so Leinster schools would be about 450 I reckon.

Would that bring in much to the school?

Dont know

Heartbreak for Summerhill College in the Connacht Schools Senior Cup Final. Garbally College win 19-18.

They have all that and five times the pupils at blackrock.

:frowning:

I don’t know about a full time coach but it is actually about 6 times the numbers. There’s around 1200 between Willow Park 1st year to Blackrock 6th year.

If you are bringing in some very talented players at 16/17 it does even the playing field somewhat though.

Phil Werahiko coaching Belvo, what is this fellas full time profession?
