Good point.

Wednesday 10 February in Donnybrook I believe.

Good to see the paper of record engaging in some serious analysis of the key issues of the day. A well researched and well written piece.

Mind you, there is a lobby out there who would consider the Franno/Brendan Mullin Rock side of 1981/82 or the Shane Byrne/Victor Costello Rock side of 1989/90 as the real ‘Dream Team’ and not the class of 1995/96.

Watching Michaels destroy Terenure here. Can’t believe that there isn’t a single chap on the Michaels team with dyed blonde hair.

Some cracking tries by Michaels alright.

Yet another game in Donnybrook today. CBC Monkstown v Clongowes Wood. I’m a bit worried about the condition of the pitch for tomorrow’s Holy Ghost v Jesuit clash of the titans.

It’s a plastic pitch. It’ll probably be ok.

Thats a clamping

Had he tuned into either the Ireland Ladies games or Ireland U20s game at the weekend he’d have realised this.

Go easy on him. The pitch was only laid 2 years ago, he may not have known.

The city is incredibly tense ahead of the big one.

It’s our year.

They might have been okay for Luton Town and QPR back in the day but plastic pitches are wholly unsuitable for the most important competition in domestic rugby.

You’re in scramble mode. The pitch in Donnybrook is a 4G latest type of astro turf.

I actually played a game on it myself in the last month. It makes for an exceptionally fast game of rugby and is certainly a massive improvement on the old sand and mud grassless pitch that used to be there.

Rugby should be played on grass, full stop.

Rugby is played in the winter here - often there isn’t very much grass left so it gets played on (or in) mud. The artificial surfaces are far superior to some of the grass pitches this time of the year.

The standard of play has increased dramatically since they started playing on the 4G pitch. In the old days the team with the biggest pack would have just bludgeoned their way to victory in a mud bath. Now we are seeing far more expansive games, it’s definitely been an improvement IMO.

Totally agree.

Half time score - Clongowes Wood 10 CBC Monkstown 5

Monkstown come up just short in the second half.

Monkstown 5 Clongowes 27.

That’s one in the eye for John Redmond over Ronan Fanning
