Leinster Senior Schools Cup Rugby - Official Thread

I imagine there he a decent enough group of people there who want to play rugby and were a bit lost with St Paul’s going backwards. Not everyone can afford/get into Belvedere.

Did Belvo open their numbers up in the 90s which damaged Paul’s?

I am led to believe that Suttonians were very put out with the school agreeing a 20 year partnership with a local gaa club for use of the school pitch for underage training and matches.

No, I just think Paul’s went downhill. Bus loads of kids come out to Fintans from Clontarf every morning. The rugby kids playing for Fintans now would have gone to Paul’s 15 years ago. Fintans and Paul are in the same deanery so kids in the area can choose either.

Paul aren’t once off though. They were always a part of the SCT having been a fee paying school until the 1960s.

Didn’t realise they were fee paying. I thought it was a combination of the religious orders slowly pulling out and Belvedere expanding their senior school in place of the former junior one.

Similar happened with Pres Glasthule on the southside, they died a slow death from the 90s on.

Didn’t suds play in a cup final with Gonzaga ??

Yep

Gonzaga have never made the semi finals of the Senior Cup, let alone the final.

Played with them anyway. The Green and White.

So a myth like Socrates , Alonso etc …

I think Belvo has got bigger as well. 960 boys now. Paul’s is Vincentians like Castleknock.

Maybe a junior cup but I don’t think they got to a final of that until the 80s.

They have a dreadful Senior Cup record.

I take it is a small school compared to Blackrock , Belvo and Terenure ??

It’s small but not that small. 500 pupils or so. Would be the same size as Mary’s, Michaels, Castleknock, Newbridge or CBC who are more successful historically. Bigger than Roscrea or Clongowes though they are boarding.

What’s the latest on Ryan’s rehab? Was a very bad injury I believe.

Was talking to someone about it recently. Frano said in the Indo he had taken the hamstring off the bone. That’s bullshit apparently, he had a serious hamstring tear which they did an op on for prevebtative reasons and is hoped to be back before end of season.

This will shake the foundations of schools rugby to the core. It’s effect could have ramifications for share prices and bond yields .

Be the lord Jaysus.

24-22 to John Brutons boys now. Sport can be cruel. 15 minutes to go. Fintans have a bonus point though.
