Liatroim vs Dun na nGall

Well Farmer, how are you holding up as our All Ireland dreams hang by a thread.

I would make one personnel change to the team vs Galway. I would bring in Fintan McBrien for Michael Foley. Bring Duignan out to the half forward line and have McBrien in corner forward. I would leave Maxwell in at full forward. Thinking back to the games vs Tyrone and Armagh, Donegal didnt look too clever under the high ball and hopefully we could win enough ball to launch into him.

I’ve been on Donegal GAA forums in the past couple of days and there is annoyance that there was club chamnpionship games played last weekend but not sure if any injuries were picked up. Some fella posted that Devenney went off injured but there doesnt seem to be anything in the national press about it.

Seeing that the Rossies are playing at 3 and Leitrim at 7 it would be nice to still be in the Championship long after they’ve gone !!!

Interesting Baby

I need to think about this before I give my opinion

That Devenney story is true I think - he’s a doubt for the match according to the radio this evening.

I would expect most of Donegal’s “doubtful players” to play

Have you thought about this yet farmer?

Well the Leitrim team has been named. 2 changes from the Galway game. Mohill’s Ciaran Kennedy comes in for Barry Prior and Fintan McBrien replaces James Glancy.

Glad McBrien is in but surprised Prior has been dropped. Once again McKeon has been named centre back and Maxwell at left half forward - does Dolan think hes kiddidng anyone naming them there ?

The team is as follows :

  1. Noel Gill

  2. Dermot Reynolds

  3. Michael McGuinness

  4. Barry McWeeney

  5. Ciaran Kennedy

  6. John McKeon

  7. Shane Foley

  8. Gary McCloskey

  9. Michael Duignan

  10. Colin Regan

  11. Michael Foley

  12. Declan Maxwell

  13. Donal Brennan

  14. Fintan McBrien

  15. Ciaran Duignan

That’s a cracking team in fairness.

good to see the industrious Regan in there again.

Glad it gets your approval Bandage.

Im sure you are all dying to know this…due to a clash of colours, both teams will be wearing their provincial colours. Leitrim will wear White and Donegal will wear Saffron.

Hopefully it will be all white on the night !!

Good stuff Baby

Meant to post on this but technically not allowed during work and internet access has gone in the evenings since I moved accomodation

Anyway a few points:

  • Ciaran Kennedy should not be playing. He will probably be marking Roper who will destroy him. Prior had a poor game against Galway but is a much better player
  • In favour of McBrien instead of Glancy
  • McWeeney will not play in the corner anyway. Wouldn’t be surprised to Kennedy and McWeeney swap positions and McKeon staying centre half. I just think that he may be playing double bluff but I’m only guessing. I would play McWeeney centre half and McKeon at full.
  • Whoever is appointed free taker needs to put them over - simple as that
  • good quote from Shane Foley who said that the team had prepared themselves for the qualifiers for the first time this year where as in other years they would have put everything into the Championship match.
  • We drew with Donegal two years ago in Ballybofey in the league where we should have won. Nothing to fear from these lads
  • just saw this on Hogan stand:

‘Donegal look to have a real injury crisis ahead of their All-Ireland SFC Qualifier against Leitrim in Pairc Sean MacDiarmada, Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday, 7th of July. Ciaran Bonner, Barry Dunnion and Colm McFadden look certain to miss the game, and there are also fitness doubts concerning Brendan Devenney, Christy Toye, Brian Roper and Michael Hegarty’

donegal should destroy the midlanders -whats the handicap

Quality quote by Shane Foley about preparing for the qualifiers for the first time.

You’d swear they were a powerhouse who expect to win Connacht every year.

Minnows like Leitrim should be focusing on the qualifiers all the time - never mind just this year.

Farmer id hope he would leave McKeon full back. The man is immense there and you are robbing Peter to pay Paul if you move him out.

We are not far away from taking a big scalp. Hopefully tomorrow evening will be the time.

Anyway I better go and do a bit of work cos have to catch the 4.00 train to Carrick - enjoy it Farmer and hopefully there will be another day out next weekend.

yes Dob - everytime you come on here you state the fact in no uncertain terms that you go to the midlands to watch bogtrim - we get it

Is that why you have trimmed your access down to 5 hours during work now Farmer? You have been more productive since the introduction of the firewall.

I see Donegal nearly got burned in Leitrim - probably spent most of the game admiring the new stand and forgot about the game.

That was a tough one to take. No doubt about it Leitrim deserved to win that game. Owned the first 25 minutes. The penalty miss was crucial and Leitrim were all over the place for last 10 minutes of the half. But there was no way they deserved to be behind at the break. The 2nd half was quite even and Glancy’s goal will live long in the memory.

Donegal were out of the blocks quicker in extra time knocking over 3 points in the first period but Leitrim responded well to get within 1 on two occasions…just couldnt get level at all.

The ref was a disgrace and that is not sour grapes - he was poor to both sides but Maxwell nearly had to be murdered to get a free.

There was a super rendition of Lovely Leitrim before extra time - hair stand up on the back of your neck stuff !!!

This is a good Leitrim team and they deserve the rub of the green at some stage. Hopefully they can entice a high profile manager down there. I know Sean Boylan’s mother is a Leitrim woman so they could do worse than approach him.

It was the worst feeling I’ve had at a match in a long, long time - my heart went out to the players. They deserved a lot more out of the year than they got. Very proud of them all the same.

Leitrim til I die…Liatroim Abu

Are they planning on changing manager or are you just suggesting that they do so?

a gallant & plucky performance by the underdogs- hold your head up high - you ran an average team pretty close & can be proud of another glorious failure

Dolan’s 3 years are up Rock and he has suffered with ill health in recent times. I cant see him staying on.

He has been a great manager who just didnt get the rub of the green. As the saying goes, its better to be a lucky manager than a good one
