Kilmallock getting to a Munster club final was a surprise (even to them). Ballygunner wouldnāt of beaten NAP by that much and could of easily turned them over on their day.
As for the Limerick panel. Weāve the strongest panel weāve ever had. Thereās lads not even on that panel that would be good enough for most IC teams. Looking at CON, CC, English and POD⦠we have some serious youth coming through as well.
We expected to beat Middleton in fairness The county final was unexpected with us being a team in serious decline and only ranked fourth best but once we get into a final against the Well we are always confident.
Iād agree to an extent in fairness. We big up our squad but I feel at the moment itās the starters that are so good we have games with a line through them at the second water break, so the subs that come in look like world beaters with the game done and dusted.
Thatās always the case. People said for years the kk subs were the second best team in the country. Turned out to be a complete myth.
In fairness every team needs a little luck but weāve had our fair share of injuries in the full back line and a good few swaps in the full forward line.
Everyone of the 26 day panel know exactly what their role is. Coupled with the fact that they are well conditioned gives them a huge advantage. Probably a result of the defeat to Kilkenny after 2019.
Nobody really improves sitting on the bench for too long either.
Like Iād argue Pat Ryan has gone backwards a good bit over the past 3 years.
Cathal OāNeill needs to be ousting Tom Morrissey this year or next. Same way Coughlan and Adam English need to be ousting Hannon and Hegarty in the next 2 seasons.
Maybe not Tom Morrissey specifically and maybe not this year but Limerick will go stale quicker than you think if there isnāt some transition done in the next 18 months.
If they stay picking the same lads, yes theyāll probably be fine this year but by next year you could find things becoming messy with the majority of the team 28-31 and then a load of unproven 21 year olds who have spent 3 years sitting on the bench by then.
The genius of Jim Gavin was how he brought in new lads each year like OāCallaghan, Howard, Murchan etc. They werenāt left sitting on the sideline for any longer than one season before breaking through to the starting 15.
