And good Friday giveaways.
Sure half the goals were scored against weeks outfits like Waterford and Laois. Ye went the back door route so often it was a disgrace he did not get more.
History is 2 in a row, back to back. Legacy is three in a row and greatness is 4 in a row, you should thank god you are around to watch this Limerick team seeing you are such a Gael.
What did Eoin Kelly score from play in All-Ireland finals? I think he won two finals and lost three?
You’d probably have him in there as a Hall of Famer alright but was he ever at Hego’s big game level? 3-14 from play in his last three finals.
I wonder will they do a full programme this weekend for the few games?
Jesus Christ, when you put it like that. And Hego back around his half back line clotheslining lads and Kelly sitting inside close to goal and still couldn’t rack up the scores Hego has.
Fuck it, you’ve really nailed it there.
Oooofffttt
Unusual career in the sense that he was brilliant in 2001 and then peaked again between 2009 and 2011. He seemed to vanish for a brief period in the
mid 00’s when Eoin Kelly was carrying that Tipp team. Plagued with injuries during that time I’d imagine.
Flaky.
Did Finn play?
No. If you skip to the very end of video, the warmdown. I’m pretty sure it’s him in training gear on the right.
An odd character in many ways I think. When at his best he was a joy to watch, an incredible eye for a goal, quite a unique style.
No, he’s hurt. I’m unsure as to the nature of the injury
It is quite nice to see so many posters from Tipp try and talk about great hurlers. Then you see Lar Corbetts name and you have to laugh.
Kyle Hayes has four senior All Ireland medals at 24 years of age.
Yes, that’s the great man himself alright. The greatest corner back of all time.
Interesting game last night between Bruff & Dromin/Athlacca. Shows the power of momentum, both sides had periods of complete and utter dominance and both missed some amount of chances when on top, failed to kill the game off. In the end, Bruff’s period of dominance lasted for longer. I wouldn’t say perfect conditions for hurling, obviously there was scorching heat which is very tough to play in. Pitch in Kilmallock did look a little bumpy too, few odd movements off the ball.
Bruff hit the first two points of the game but then D/A hit 1-9 without reply to go 10 points up by the 15th minute. They won pretty much every Bruff puckout, had extra men back around the ball and were just putting the ball back over the bar. Bruff couldn’t get out at all, D/A had extra men on the long puckouts and were working very hard to turn the short puckouts over, Bruff weren’t able to move it out to midfield. David Reidy showed his class in this period, he was dictating the play with Cian Scully also getting on huge amounts of ball in and around centre-forward and David Breen & Jack Fitzgibbon dangerous inside, had the Bruff full-back line in real bother.
Reidy set up the goal, a great catch, two backs were drawn to him, he popped out the handpass to Breen in space, who put the ball under Eric Finn. Reidy also picked off a couple of points from play out the field, by just cleverly moving into space. Scully did similarly while Fitzgibbon got a couple inside. But they also missed 9 chances in that period when they were on top, when Bruff couldn’t get a sniff. Mike Reidy was sitting in the pocket and hurling an amount of ball.
But in the last 10 minutes of the half, Bruff upped the workout, started to slow D/A moving the ball out of their own half-back line and they started to win a few frees. I’ve been critical of the D/A backs in the past and they gave away some really stupid frees throughout this game. Danny O’Leary scored 5 points in a row before the half-time whistle, 3 frees and 2 absolutely superb points from play. He was a real threat inside, his first touch was immaculate and was scoring points on the turn. However, he missed the easiest free of all after Mike Reidy picked up a yellow for fouling Colin Madden. David Reidy also missed a free just before the break that should have been a straightforward score, Eric Finn put his hurley up over the crossbar and took it down, ref blew for half-time immediately.
Bruff had started to get on top and that continued into the second half. They were 6 points down at half-time and, within 3 and a half minutes of the second half starting, they were a point up. They hit 1-4 in 3 & a a half minutes. Young Darragh Butler opened the scoring with a point from space, O’Leary hit two frees, sub Sean Murnane got a lovely point after initially being blocked and then Danny O’Leary scored a cracking goal. Took the ball brilliantly himself, took on his man and rasped a shot into the top corner. Butler then scored another and D/A were lucky that Mike Moloney didn’t see Sean O’Leary hit a player high with an elbow; I’ve seen red cards given for similar challenges.
But, like D/A in the first half, Bruff missed some amount of chances while on top. After going 2 up, they hit 10 wides in a row. Absolutely shocking. That included a third missed free for Danny O’Leary, 3 missed frees by Kyle Dillon before Danny O’Leary hit another free wide after taking them back over. Dromin/Athlacca pulled back level in that period, although Reidy also missed a very handy free to put them back in front.
With 10 minutes to go, it didn’t look like either side wanted to win it, so bad were the misses. But Bruff were totally dominant in general play, now they were the ones winning all the breaking ball. Paul Browne was doing what Mike Reidy did in the first half, sat back in the pocket and dictated the play. Kevin Bonar got on some amount of ball around the middle; Paul O’Riordan & Conor Madden were working hard while Darragh Butler & Danny O’Leary were finding space in attack.
Eventually Darragh Butler took over the frees himself and he scored 0-4 in the space of 3 minutes to push Bruff ahead, 3 frees and another good point from play after being picked out by Browney. The first free he took was a fairly difficult one from the middle of the field. Some balls for a young fella to nail a free like that to take it on after their two main freetakers had missed so many. That was really the winning of the game, just really bad frees conceded by the Dromin/Athlacca back, always their downfall: pushes in the backs when players are going down over the ball, pulled arms in congested areas, absolutely no need.
Reidy did create another goal chance for Dromin/Athlacca; again, drew the man and popped the pass out to the man in space but Jack Fitzgibbon stood up while taking the shot when one-on-one with the keeper and was hooked from behind. The ball looped up into the air and looked like it might bounce over the line, but hit a divot and spun out wide and Reidy was unable to pull on the ball to the net. Reidy looked to create another goal chance in the last minute but the handpass was intercepted and Bruff held on for a three-point win.
Big win for Bruff considering they were missing a player of the sheer class of Sean Finn, as well as a big forward in Chris Browne. Some of their backs looked in real bother early on but, honestly, the ball coming in was excellent and there was nowhere near enough pressure being applied out the field. Browne grew into the game and started to take a lot of short puckouts (madness from D/A to allow him receive them). Danny O’Leary, despite the missed frees, was probably their best player. 1-3 from play, won some hard ball and was absolutely electric in the full-forward line. I remember seeing Sean Murnane in a Junior B match last year against us and he was a different class altogether and he looked very comfortable at this level, made a big impact when he came on. With players to return, they’ll really fancy themselves to win this outright.
Dromin/Athlacca looked so utterly and totally dominant early. At 10 points up, they will be sickened they threw it away. But they killed themselves with wides in the first half and then had no answer at all to Bruff’s dominance. The stupid frees will annoy them because, although Bruff missed a lot of them, it allowed Bruff to put the squeeze on their puckout. I thought their forwards were good- Reidy, Scully, O’Leary, Breen & Fitzgibbon all did very well at times. Mike Reidy was excellent first half, as were the likes of David Mullins but both of those were among the most guilty when it came to stupid fouls. In the end, they were just overrun and Bruff had the longer period of dominance.

The big local derby between Ballybrown & Kildimo/Pallaskenry has been fixed for Askeaton. 3pm on Saturday September 3rd.
Outstanding report
I knew he’d write a great report so I didn’t bother going up to it.
