You only say this if it wasnât!
Ballysteen dig out a late goal to draw it. Still alive but only just. Even a win in the last game against KP might not be enough to go through if Gaels beat Ballylanders
I always said i loved Ballylanders
Oh
Some player to watch at his peak
What sort of max bet would this fella have ?
KP a big price there
Odds up on PP/Betfair
K/P and Blackrock in a double
Kilmallock (senior), Feohanagh and Croagh/Kilfinny all look a good thing.
âŹ20 pays out âŹ36, be a while waiting for a return like that from a high street bank.
They bank wonât keep the 20 if youâre wrong
Senior A
Thursday September 1
Adare (7/2) vs Kilmallock (1/5) @ 6.15pm in Ballyagran
Friday September 2
Ahane (7/2) vs Doon (1/5) @ 6.15pm in Cappamore
Saturday September 3
Na Piarsaigh (1/4) vs Patrickswell (3/1) @ 6.15pm in Kilmallock
On the face of it, the three senior games look relatively easy to pick this weekend. Tomorrow evening in Ballyagran, a Kilmallock side playing really good hurling against an Adare side struggling. Will they move Declan Hannon out of centre-back? It really hasnât worked at all so far, just seems like absolute madness at this level to have a player of Hannonâs class in a position where heâs not a consistent scoring threat. And theyâre lacking a lot up front without him, while Kilmallock have OâBrien, Chanley, Mulcahy, OâReilly, Houla all flying. Based on what Iâve seen so far, youâd have to say Kilmallock by 9.
Tom Morrissey has probably been the best player in the entire club championship so far, an absolute phenomenon. Sadly, that wonât be enough for Ahane as Doon will snuff out the rest of their attack I would say. Doon expecting players back after the break, they dismantled Adare, fucked away a lead against Na Piarsaigh but I donât foresee them having much trouble here. Richie vs Tom will be almost worth the admission alone, Richie will love having a chance to flake Tom. Doon by 9.
Normally, youâd expect Patrickswell vs Na Piarsaigh to be a classic but the understrength Patrickswell side that we saw in the first two rounds would be no match for this NaP team. But they may have a couple back from injury but I still donât think they win this without Lynch. They did get a big win against Ahane when they were possibly a bit wobbly after the hammering at the hands of Kilmallock. NaP edged Kilmallock in a serious game of hurling between two sides who look like real contenders, as youâd expect. Gillane will obviously have to be watched, but Iâd fancy Na Piarsaigh to win by 7 or so.
Senior B
Saturday September 3
Ballybrown (1/3) vs Kildimo/Pallaskenry (5/2) @ 6pm in Askeaton
Blackrock (5/2) vs South Liberties (1/3) @ 6.15pm in Cappamore
Sunday September 4
Garryspillane (10/11) vs Mungret/St. Paulâs (10/11) @ 6.15pm in Doon
A huge match on Saturday, a local derby against the neighbours. As far as Iâm aware, the last time Kildimo/Pallaskenry played Ballybrown in a Championship match, we ended up being banned from all GAA activity for five years and it caused the split of the club which took a long time to re-unify. So weâll hope to avoid that this weekend, if at all possible but still one that weâre looking forward to. Ballybrown flying in their two opening fixtures, dismantled a Mungret side who beat us and, on the basis of that result alone, would have every reason to be confident. And they certainly are confident. But we bounced back from that disaster of a result to beat probably a better side in Liberties. Still didnât exactly open them up the way Ballybrown may have but a local derby isnât going to be a loose, open affair. This will be a dogfight and should be an absolute cracker. I simply cannot wait for it to be honest, this is the kind of game weâve been looking forward to since we were kids. And if Tom Morrissey has been the best player in this yearâs championship, Kyle is only a few short steps behind. And Coughlan canât be too far behind that either, absolutely rampaging through teams in the first few games, with the likes of Josh Adams also in fine form. Our odds are attractive, I think.
Blackrock havenât been going very well so far; they ran Garryspillane very close but didnât really get near Ballybrown (although the margin was closer than Mungret). Liberties narrowly beat Liberties but when Nash wasnât allowed fire against us, the rest of their forwards didnât do enough to make up that deficit. Will Richie Mac & Blackrock contain Nash the same way? Iâm not really sure, I just think Liberties will get enough scores this time to get the win. Liberties by 9.
The Bouncers vs Mungret is a very interesting one. Mungret had an unbelievable win against us, but didnât lay a glove on Ballybrown. The Bouncers will feel they fucked it away against Liberties and had to dig deep to beat Blackrock. I think this will be very very tight, two contrasting styles. Very hard to call, reflected in the odds, I wouldnât be surprised if Garryspillane just edged this by a single point. Could very well be a draw.
Premier Intermediate
Thursday September 1
Bruff (4/9) vs Monaleen (15/8) @ 6.15pm in Caherconlish
Effin (4/7) vs Newcastlewest (13/8) @ 6.15pm in Feenagh
Sunday September 4
Cappamore (7/4) vs Dromin/Athlacca (1/2) @ 1pm in Kilteely
Glenroe (1/3) vs Knockainey (5/2) @ 6pm in Knocklong
Nobody with a perfect record in the Premier Intermediate after three games, always a surprise in this one. I am surprised that Bruffâs odds are so short after getting mangled by D/A in the first half the last day out. Monaleen have two wins on the board and bounced back well to the bad loss to Glenroe. I do still think Bruff will win this, especially if Finn is back but if heâs out, theyâre there to be got at by a decent side like Monaleen. This is a repeat of the U-19 final, and both sides will have plenty of representatives from their respective 19s teams in this game too with the likes of Darragh Butler, Patrick Finn, Josh Keating, Joe Fitz, Lochlann McHale and Ronan Lyons all expected to feature. Bruff won in that game, and I think theyâll win here too. Bruff by 4.
NCW have a couple of big players to return from injury in the form of Bryan Nix and Diarmuid Moran Kelly, and theyâll be relieved to have them back after only picking up 3 points from a possible 6 in the first two games. They suffered a bad defeat to Monaleen the last day after having been a lot of peopleâs favourites for the title. Newly-promoted Effin were given a beating of a beating the first day out but have bounced back with two very impressive wins, and despite having tipped NCW to win the title and now having their two best players back, I just think Effin will get the win here by 3.
Cappamore the only side with three losses after reaching the county final last year. Dromin/Athlacca were 9 points up against Bruff at one point in the last round but still ended up losing. They have two points on the board but probably need a win here to keep in contention to make the semi-finals. I was impressed with their attack, if not their defence the last day, and just think that Reidy & Scully have real class and could be the edge against a dogged Cappamore side. D/A by 4.
Glenroe are unbeaten and top the group, a draw the first day against NCW the only blemish. They were semi-finalists last year and perhaps were written off unfairly by a few people before the season started. Canât argue with their form so far. Knockainey are winless, they picked up a draw against Bruff and were only narrow losers against D/A, Based on form, itâs hard to see Glenroe not getting the win here but as we said at the outset, this competition often has surprises, itâs just very hard to sustain the same level of form for seven games on the trot. But Iâll still go for Glenroe by 5.
Intermediate Group 1
Thursday September 1
Bruree (1/3) vs Croom (11/4) @ 6.15pm in Bruff
Friday September 2
Caherline (3/1) vs Feohanagh (1/4) @ 6.15pm in Ballybrown
Sunday September 4
Murroe/Boher (7/2) vs Na Piarsaigh 2 (1/5) @ 6pm in Claughaun
Bruree were very impressive the first day but after the loss of Sam Cronolly, their attempt the second day was less impressive. Against the odds, in some respect, Croom are still unbeaten and sitting in second place. They had a great win against Murroe/Boher, aided by a very strong breeze in the first half and had the experience to see the victory home in the second half. But if Cronolly is fit, Bruree win this in my opinion. I donât know whether he is but Iâm going to go with Bruree by 5 on the assumption that he has returned.
Feohanagh got the win against a weakened Bruree after losing to Na Piarsaigh the first day. Caherline were well-beaten by the same Na Piarsaigh side. With Mike Fitzgibbon back amongst the ranks, Feohanaghâs attack looks way stronger and maybe gives Seamie Flanagan another player making runs off his shoulder. Flanagan is more of a natural creator than scorer and always links well with Fitzgibbon. Caherline will make it difficult for them but I think Feohanagh should win this, going to say the Westies by 4.
NaP2 are massive, massive favourites to beat bottom side Murroe/Boher who have had two very disappointing results so far. Youâd probably have to be mad to back against a Na Piarsaigh side backboned by All-Ireland winners but M/B do have a lot of talent in their ranks. They have had a month to reflect on their disastrous start, will they come out fighting or roll over and end up in a relegation play-off? Na Piarsaigh one of the favourites to win it outright; I think it might be tighter than people think. Iâm going to tip M/B by 3.
Intermediate Group 2
Sunday September 4
Granagh/Ballingarry (1/3) vs Knockaderry (5/2) @ 2pm in the Bog Garden
Kilmallock 2 (15/8) vs Pallasgreen (1/2) @ 2pm in Bruff
Croagh/Kilfinny (1/5) vs Hospital/Herbertstown (7/2) @ 6pm in Fedamore
A very good win against Hospital/Herbertstown for Granagh/Ballingarry in the second round of fixtures puts them right in the mix, and are favourites against fellow West side, Knockaderry. Knockaderry had a very poor outing the first day against Pallasgreen but got a valuable win over Kilmallock 2 which might just keep them out of relegation. G/B ran Croagh/Kilfinny very close, and I still fancy C/K to do very well in this competition. On that basis, I think I have to go with G/B to win by 6.
I wrote off Pallasgreen a bit at the start of the year but they rallied and got a win in their opening fixture and ran C/K all the way. With those results behind them, I think theyâll now do alright and should be beating a Kilmallock side who are only going to lose players from here, you would think. Pallasgreen by 4.
C/K massive odds-on favourites, and probably deservedly. H/H didnât really look like winning against G/B and I think C/K are an even better side. They also have players to return to the starting team and I expect them to get stronger as this competition progresses. They should top this group, although H/H arenât out of the hunt to qualify even if they lose this. C/K by 7.
Junior A Group 1
Thursday September 1
Drom/Broadford vs Templeglantine @ 6.30pm in Coolyroe
Friday September 2
Ballybricken/Bohermore vs Staker Wallace @ 6pm in Hospital
Blackrock 2 vs Crecora/Manister @ 6pm in Martinstown
I still think the junior is the most cut-throat competition of the lot. Like the Senior B, only two progress from a group of six and that is naturally very competitive. Templeglantine the only team with two wins in Group 1, they face Drom/Broadford who probably have to win all three of their remaining fixtures to have any chance of progressing. It should be a very interesting contest; Glantineâs victory over Ballybricken/Bohermore was very impressive and, based on that, I think I have to tip them. Having said that, much like the Premier Intermediate, this competition throws up some strange results. The reason a lot of these teams are junior is probably that lack of consistency. Still, Glantine by 2.
The Stakers definitely arenât bad, much better this year, but Iâm still going to go with B/B to edge this one. B/B by 4.
Cathal OâNeillâs Crecora/Manister should be hammering Blackrockâs second team who have lost a lot of the Junior B winning side of last year to senior hurling and have looked way off the pace so far. C/M by 25.
Junior A Group 2
Friday September 2
Castletown/Ballyagran vs St. Patrickâs @ 6pm in Fedamore
Saturday September 3
Killeedy vs Monagea @ 6pm in Newcastlewest
Sunday September 4
Ahane 2 vs Claughaun @ 1pm in Ballybricken
A lot of tight junior groups, this is probably the tightest of the lot with 5 teams who probably have their own hopes of winning the entire competition outright. I tipped Castletown/Ballyagran to win the whole thing outright and they go up the Hegartys on Friday evening. They had a heartbreaking loss to Claughaun by a signle point in the first round and then hammered Ahaneâs second team. Patâs drew with Killeedy and then fell to goal hungry Monagea by 2 points. Even if they win their three remaining games, they might not qualify. It will be ridiculously close, but Iâm going to back my original horse. C/B by 1.
Two very good results for Killeedy, even without Paudie Ahern. Cian Magnier Flynn playing very well by all accounts. With three points on the board, they are in a fantastic position but Monagea surprised a lot of people with their win over Patâs. Iâm still going to back Killeedy, I know they constantly let you down and flatter to deceive but two impressive results so far. Killeedy by 4.
Claughaun will hammer Ahaneâs seconds. Claughaun by 23.
Junior A Group 3
Friday September 2
Ballybrown 2 vs St. Kieranâs @ 6pm in Askeaton
Saturday September 3
Doon 2 vs Mungret/St. Paulâs 2 @ 1pm in Caherconlish
Sunday September 4
Askeaton vs Feenagh/Kilmeedy @ 2pm in Newcastlewest
Doon 2 and last yearâs county finalists, Kieranâs, the early pacesetters in this group and Kieranâs play another side who made the knockout stages last year in Ballybrown. Ballybrown playing the day before their seniors play is interesting, but theyâve had a very bad start to this competition despite having a very strong Junior B team. Kieranâs have two big wins already, hard to see them not getting a third. Kieranâs by 9.
Mungret simply arenât as strong at this level as they were last year. Doon were flying in their first two wins and I donât know how many more theyâll lose with some big Doon seniors to return that hadnât featured for the juniors. That inside line of Barry, Stapleton & Simon is a serious threat at junior level with the likes of Bob Purcell well able to pick off scores from outside. I think they could rack up another big score at the weekend. Doon by 12.
I do think second place is still up for grabs, perhaps, but may already be beyond Askeaton. They definitely cannot afford another loss, F/K have one win on the board but were well beaten by Kieranâs. Both had similar losses to Kieranâs, Askeaton lost to a very strong Doon, F/K beat Mungret. Based on form and last year, you probably have to go for F/K, especially if Willie is not available. F/K by 2.
Junior A Group 4
Thursday September 1
Patrickswell 2 vs Tournafulla @ 6pm in Ballingarry
Saturday September 3
Garryspillane 2 vs Rathkeale @ 1pm in Old Christians
Kilteely/Dromkeen vs Old Christians @6pm in Ballybricken
Tour do look like a very good bet to win this outright but thereâs no denying theyâve played the two weakest teams in the group so far. The Well are a different kettle of fish altogether, with two wins in the bag already. Still, with the return of Stevie Cahill, Tour look like, on paper at least, an intermediate side playing at junior level. Tour by 4.
Rathkeale vs the Bouncers could be a relegation battle already. Whoever loses this will almost certainly be bottom of the group and I donât know if there are many weaker teams in the other groups (maybe Blackrock if they give up altogether). Iâm going to go with Rathkeale to win this on the basis that they do have the talent within the group. Rathkeale by 4.
Christians got a great win the last day out, K/D fell to the Well by 2. Even without Brian OâGrady, I still expect K/D to have enough to get the win here. K/D by 5.
Kilmallock 3-15 to 0-7 up against Adare HT. just the 3-14 from play.
Thatâs some battering for the Adare boys .
Kilmallock flying it.
