I see NAP have pulled out of the u21s football.

That’s two teams I know of that pulled out of 21s to focus on Munster for their adult team (Belville hurling being the other). It’s pretty unfair on the other lads in squad not involved with the senior team.

Clonmel Commercials did it in Tipp with huge success…*

*to be honest I’m not even sure if there is even a South Tipp Under 21 Football championship going ahead. The whole U21 grade has turned into a farce thanks to the split season.

The split season strikes again

Under 21 Football at club level should have been finished 7 months ago but thanks to the split season zealots who want their Inter county round robins and back doors, that’s just not possible.

How do you make that out?

U21 Football Championship in Limerick has been played at this time of year for at least the past 10 years, and probably longer.

And when was U21 Club Hurling traditionally played?

Very early in the year.

And so you have proved my point.

Traditionally, there would be one code of U21 played off in the early months of the year easing the fixture pressure in the Autumn. The split season has taken this away and we are left with a mish/mash mess of Under 21 at the end of the year between both codes.

This situation with NAP could have arisen any other year under the old Limerick structure.

I’d agree the intercounty season is too long btw and next years structure for football looks horrendous. I played football for years under the exact structure you are proposing for senior championship. It worked pretty ok until the start date started creeping earlier and earlier. It went from the May weekend to eventually begining on first weekend of April (so one year our first game was in horrendous conditions on March 31st). That meant a massive break between the first two rounds and the last three rounds. It also put a huge burden of cost on the club in trying to get training facilities for January , February and March.

You’d hope these lads are just joking and really aren’t actually this stupid

When do you think the Tipp Under 21 Football county final was traditionally played? The optimum date was always during the Snooker World Championship.

Huh? For you?

For everyone.

It was important to have it played off before the exam season kicked in.

When would you play it?

Are you expecting big exams before xmas?

Were they trying to play it off midweek under lights?

Jesus I dont know why I bother.

You play one code of Under 21 in March/April before exam season and you play the other in November/December. You can’t play both successfully at this time of year.
