We would have bate Tipp last week if WOD Lynch and Kyle were in their right positions.
TBF they were plugging gaps. But thatâs the spine of the team there. Should never be touched

Our heart would go out to them
Nickie was great as usual, excellent on puckouts and solid whenever called on.
Full back line very good again, Casey playing very consistently at the moment and great to see Dan and Finn back. Dan is a colossus and got a huge cheer for a great catch near the end, Finn was moving the best I have seen in a while.
Hayes and Nash both excellent, Diarmuid started well got a great score but was wise not to risk a red and Coughlan did very well when introduced.
WOD was quiet enough but effective as always. English is simmering, movement and touch are excellent, 1-5 from play in two games but reality is that should be in the region of 2-10, will rack up a big score soon.
Lynch was brilliant yesterday and was great to see, Tom was much improved and got some very nice scores, Hego still not flying but signs of life in the second half.
Gillane and the Bull really good again, the Bull has 1-8 from play in 2 games and robbed yesterday to make that a balanced 1-4 each day. Reidy worked very hard and contributed as always.with some excellent link play.
Good to see Darragh get minutes and Cathal.
We do match up very well against Waterford generally, regardless of what way we pick the team, I think.
Which is not necessarily the case against Cork as we found out last year. So the team that played really well yesterday may not necessarily be the best team to combat Cork.
And obviously we have a few players returning from injury and some players who got minutes yesterday and did well. So there will be some very tough decisions to make in two weeks time.
Itâs good to have a very balanced poster like yourself among a bunch of reactive Limerick headbangers on here including myself.
Yeah in fairness Waterford are tailor made for us. And they seem to play into our hands by dropping back.
Cork will be a different animal altogether
Hayes and Nash in the half-back I think solves one set of problems vs Cork. Big call in the full-back line now on Finn vs Murphy assuming Murphy is fit the next day. Coughlan is challenging but Iâd expect Byrnes still to get the nod.
Iâd love to see Peter Casey back and starting vs Cork but thatâs probably a stretch.
Grand to have coughlan and Byrnes to choose between. Coughlan is growing into it more and more.
Disappointing Casey wasnât involved yesterday. Looked sharp against Tipp. Hopefully we have him later in the year. Reidy had some lovely moments though, heâs great to facilitate players around him.
Cork or Clare donât give us the spare man at the back and go 15 v 15
We will need to deal with the Cork puckout and the breaks in particular this year (Iâd be more confident that we can with Hayes at 6 this year). Getting the matchups on Hayes and Connolly right is a huge thing - they are on fire.
We will need to rattle the net a couple of times ourselves to win this one.
Itâs set up to be a ferocious battle -and the loser will have a job on their hands to lift it the following week against a fresh Clare or Waterford.
I find Coughlan performs better when he is playing on Byrnes side compared to the other side. Had a great game when he came on yesterday.
Overall was great performance. Quaids puckouts massive improvement from the Tipp game.
Full back line didnât look to be under pressure. Having Dan Morrissey back there just seems to calm everything down. Great to see Finn and Casey getting through a full game and performing well.
Halfback line were extremely solid under the long puckout, I thought it was what killed waterford kept bombing high ball on top of Hayes Nash and especially Coughlan in second half but didnât really get much joy from it.
Great to see the terminator back in midfield and did exactly what he always does the talk about is legs being gone by Micheal Duignan during the week proved to be nonsense. Adam English class again seems to leave easy scores behind him but when under pressure or at a tight angle he never misses. Going to be a serious talent.
Wasnât sure about Tom Morrissey before the game but he proved me wrong and had a great performance getting great scores. Fell away in second half but very solid performance. Leaving Cian Lynch free was never going to work for waterford and the way we picked him out when free was very good and punished waterford, Hegarty still not his best self but that score in the 55th minute shows sign of life and started to really come into it in the second half.
The Gillane and Bull O Brien partnership has all the signs of it becoming the 2021 Gillane + Seamus Flanagan partnership. Was good to see Gillane offer something different then coming out for a ball in the half forward line and running at goal. Best game hes had from play in a while. David Reidy doing the dirty work and he is very well suited to that role.
Darragh O Donovan when he came on looked like he was never gone away looked very sharps exact same for Cathal O Neill who will 100% be pushing for a start in 2 weeks time in Limerick.
The big question that we will probably here is how do the backs stop the pace cork have. Does Nash go back to 4 for a game and O neill to 7 maybe?
Bar last yearâs All-Ireland semi final, Limerick have scored at least 2 goals against Cork in every championship meeting going back to 2019. Weâve hit 3 goals on three different occasions also.
There are goals there. Any full-back line with OâLeary and OâDonoghue in it will always give you a chance.
Jesus the moaning during the game from fans about Colm Lyons was incredible.
The flip side every pass Limerick make is a throw and every tackle is a sending off or yellow according to people from other counties. Its mental how they cant take Limerick having a generational team doing well at the moment.
Ă Leary has been excellent this year but eoin downey is a liability. Gives away needless frees, especially against tipp when they had an extra man.
He gave Waterford a free when one Waterford lad pushed another Waterford lad over
Lookit, itâs a hard job to referee the game with the amount of diving going on these days
Lads are mad to do a sweep sweep job on it because itâs only affecting Limerick. It really shows how much integrity Limerick hurling supporters possess that they are making it an issue even after a victory.
Colm Lyons gave a very similar performance in the 2022 final when we couldnât shake KK from our coat tails. He gave them handy frees throughout to keep them in touch.
The thing that you would be really happy with from the last day, particularly in comparison to the first game, was our stickwork and first touch in tight spaces.
There were a couple of passages of play where there were little combos of three or four lovely little passes to get out of tight corners.
Led by Lynch obviously, his wrists are outrageous, but Tom, Adam, Nash among others all involved too. And just the first touch then; any slight hesitation or mistake and you get turned over but it was so much better.
We dropped an awful lot relatively against Tipp. Now Cork potentially put us under more pressure if theyâre at it, theyâll presumably press up right across the board although it will be interesting to see how they deal with Lynch if heâs on form like the last day.
Heâll be on form alright.
You are rightâŚi will never forget that
