A real clash of new money v tradition alright.
There ya go this is how you do it.
Limerick were cycling down a hill with a wind at their back the way Waterford set up. I dont think it really proved anything other than their hurling was a bit crisper and sharper than the first day.
Shane Barrett v Byrnes/Coughlan, Brian Hayes v Finn, Darragh Fitzgibbon v Kyle Hayes and Horgan v Casey are absolute car crashes of match ups waiting to happen for Limerick.
At the other end, bar Eoin Downey v Gillane who is a weak link, the rest of the Cork backs should be ok.
It was a bit of a mauling in Croke Park last July truth be told until Cork got white line fever finishing up and its hard to see how Limerick can reverse the form bar Cork flopping big time.
Shur at least we have Nicky to puck it back out them.
Quaidās a good goalie but I dont think he is anywhere near fit and has become a weak link now too.
He wasnāt tested the last day, but heāll have been disappointed with both the two goals John McGrath scored on him.
Hayes/Connolly/Horgan in on top of him will be a lot different to Hutchinson, Mahony and Fitzgerald out near the 45.
Downey will be on O Brien, Gillane marked by O Donoghue as usual.
Look it, everyone here in Limerick recognizes that the once-dominant āgreen machineā is now running on fumes, no longer fueled by the high-octane intensity that once defined them.
Kielyās post-match interview after the Waterford game codded no one here in Limerick. His remarks revealed a thinly veiled attempt to inspire a resurgence.
The reality is clear, the mileage is high, the signs of fatigue are undeniable, and his comments reeked of desperation, a last-ditch effort to manifest a peak performance against Cork. We are fucked.
The lads on the hurling pod elaborated on this this week. Said limerick are too good to work the ball from short puck outs and up the field and too good on puck outs to the middle third to attempt those. So Corkās solution has been to lamp the ball up the field as far as they can and create chaos and try to win the breaks. And the results show that it has worked for them.
@thelimericks forgot themselves for a few days but theyāre scared of their shit now again by Thursday
The Limerickās resorting to listening to James Skehill to get a grasp on understanding hurling
Problem with cork is have they enough men with guts to get the job done ?
We know Limerick have.
So many of their sunshine hurlers disappeared in the AI final battle last season and again in Ennis when it was put to them.
I can see Limerick getting on top of their puck out with Hayes and Nash at 6 and 7 - and then Downey SOD O Leary will face an examination.
Limerick will mop the floor with Cork.
Thereās over a week to go lads, donāt kick for home too early
We are home and hosed already.
Matchups will be interesting - I donāt think Cork will want Harnedy on Barry Nashās wing (expect it to be Barrett). Harnedy really struggled to cover Diarmuid Ryan in Croke park last year who scored 0-3 and should have had 0-5
Kyle on DF will be great to watch.
Cork havent quite figured Clare out yet, who have a nice mix of X-Factor players like Kelly/OāDonnell/Fitzgerald, big physical units like Malone/Ryan/McInerney and hatchetmen who dont spare timber like Hogan/Leen/Cleary in the full back line to upset Corks rhythm.
Cork match up very well to Limerick though and have their number in pretty much every position.
Limerick were without DOD and Casey last year. Finn was only back 9 months. Hannon was hobbled.
Cork played to their absolute peak and fell over the line.
Theyāll have to go to that place again to win and good luck to them if they do. But it will take everything they haveā¦
We will defend the Gaelic Grounds.
Iāll also add Cian and Tom Morrissey were well below par last year and look to be finding a bit of form this year.
The Bull is something they havenāt really experienced either. Bar a few minutes last year.
I think the Bull scores 1-4 in a motm performance. Himself and Gillane will absolutely rinse that Cork FB line
Hard to disagree with anything there. Just hope we can keep it competitive for 50 minutes & take it from there into the rest of the year.
Oh those limericks
