Just back from Raheenagh. (Lovely little set-up.)

Nick Greene Sportsground management county intermediate hurling championship round 1 group 2 RESULT.

G/B 2-19 NCW 0-13.

Team G/B prevail in the West Limerick derby.

As expected the townie gene done for NCW. Straight red in the first half. I only made it in at half time (with the score at 1-11 to 0-06) but apparently it was a reckless pull across the head that left ref Eamon Phelan with little option.

To be fair to them NCW whipped over a flurry of scores upon the resumption and got it back to four but G/B kicked on again and won handily enough for a finish. A goal with the last score of the game was the icing on the cake.

Clash of the giants next week in round 2 with Na Piarsaigh facing G/B.

A lovely enough capped off with Adare getting a nice trimming too.

Who got sent off for the townies?

To be fair, G/B are just a step above NCW at this stage.

I got some laugh watching the adare well game earlier when the commentator stated ā€œthe sparrowā€ has a great love for adare Gaa club. Iā€™d say he loves adare and the bucket load of cash they pay him. Dowling was actually good as co commentator but surely itā€™s not the wisest for nap to have him commentating on rivals matches? And surely John kiely doesnā€™t want him commentating on his teammates. Not sure it should happen.

Not sure about steps but weā€™re 12 points above them, pal.

Have to agree on Dowling commentating . I would be curious what both Beary and Kiely think of this. It does not lend itself to a good situation within the Limerick camp with him having the opportunity to criticize his current Limerick teammates while playing for their clubs. Also may give motivation to opposing club players in future rounds. I wonder if he is committed to Limerickā€™s cause or the cause of Shane Dowling ltd and more interested in increasing hid media profile.

One things for sure it wouldnā€™t happen under Cody in kk. Now sometimes this situation may have come about due to somebody being held up or whatever but the optics arenā€™t great. As Iā€™ve said before Iā€™d tell all the papers and the radio to fuck off. Let kiely deal with them and let the players play.

Fully agree , but I think it comes back to Dowling personally . There may be extenuating circumstances , but if he wanted to keep a low profile he would tell them to fuck off. This present Limerick group appear ( from what my limited knowledge is) to be tight knit and maybe Dowling is outside of this and this is his way of keeping himself to the forefront of supporters minds. Whatever , i dont think this will happen in other counties and I dont think it will be to his benefit from a Limerick hurling perspective in the long run. Maybe he is angling for a spot on Sunday night TV

Dowling will be lucky to get a run this year

To be fair I donā€™t think Dowling is a narcissist doing this for self promotion. Heā€™s a sound enough lad and when asked to help out as commentator etc he probably doesnā€™t want to let anybody down by declining. Iā€™d highly doubt itā€™s an ego thing looking for a higher profile. Easy going fella so heā€™s probably too obliging at times.

In the run up to the A-I club final himself and Downes called out to our neck of the woods to present medals to under age teams - fair dues.

Probably could do with keeping the head down a bit though. JK and the captain should be the only ones on the panel talking to the media.

Iā€™ve been critical of lads for this before. Iā€™m not sure on dowling but he one hundred percent does himself no favours doing this sort of thing. Heā€™s sets himself up for a massive fall.

Would agree with you on this.

Itā€™s going to be used as a stick to beat him with at the first opportunity. Might be wiser to just avoid all distractions and focus on nailing down a place in the team, he has a big fight on his hands to be honest.

Limerick may not win anything with Dowling but they definitely wonā€™t win anything without him.

You canā€™t beat a bit of composure.

Nail on the head

We won 1b without him this year. Which is more than weā€™ve won with him in the last four seasons.
