Team news ahead of the Premier division game away to Limerick on Friday.
Limerick v Shamrock Rovers
SSE Airtricity League, Premier Division
Thomond Park, Friday, 1 August, 2014
Kick-off: 7.45pm
Shamrock Rovers travel to Thomond Park this weekend to take on Limerick in the SSE Airtricity League, Premier Division.
The game has a 7.45pm kick-off at the Limerick city venue.
Rob Cornwall is back training after his recent lay-off with a hamstring injury, however he wonât be ready for Fridayâs game. Otherwise there is a full Hoops squad available.
Speaking ahead of the game, Hoops boss, Trevor Croly said: âWeâre all looking forward to the game on Friday night. Weâve won our last five games away from home, so weâre glad to have a good chance of putting last weekâs result behind. Obviously the results havenât been so good at home, and we need to look at that, but weâll bring that away confidence into the game against Limerick. We know that Limerick will be well up for the tie, especially as they have made some additions this week and there should be a feel good factor around the club. But we feel we have a good chance of winning tomorrow night.â
First half was as well as Limerick have played in years. Ripped them apart at will and looked like scoring every time we went forward. Excellent slide-rule pass by Jason Hughes played in Rory Gaffney for the opener. The ginger Ronaldo was tormenting the Hoops and he also had a hand in the second, picking out the on-loan Turner who finished with aplomb. The Super Blues were running Rovers ragged and the third goal duly arrived when deadline day signing Lee-J Lynchâs inswinging cross was turned into his own net by an unfortunate defender. Champagne football from Martin âRustyâ Russellâs charges.
Torrential rain turned the rest of the match into a non-event before Stephen Folan headed home the fourth late on with a thumping header from Shane Dugganâs menacing set-piece delivery. Rovers were a rabble, their late consolation barely warranting a murmur from the vociferious but disillusioned away support. Under-fire manager Trevor Croly was barracked as chants of âwe want Croly outâ reverberated at full time. One incensed Rovers fan had to be restrained and removed from the ground as he hopped over the security mesh and attempted to run down the stand to berate the embattled Rovers boss.
New manager bounce for Limerick who can hopefully push up the table. Three points in the bag and my car, which was parked in LIT, was not vandalised by the disgruntled away support so a good night all things considered.
During the game home fans unveiled a Palestinian flag in an act of solidarity with our fellow Super Blues brethern caught up in the conflict in Gaza.
Was told by someone at the match tonight that recently departed Super Blues manager Stuart Taylor has taken up the position of u-20 manager at Aston Villa.
