He just applied the coaching though.
I wouldn’t mind but he wouldn’t have had the temperament to do that.

Zidane was great. But there are levels of greatness. He is not on the very top rung of that that Maradona, Messi and Pele occupy.
Ronaldinho isn’t the greatest but his peak years deserve to mentioned in the conversation.
Ronaldo would have a bigger claim than Zidane to be mentioned in the conversation but he falls just short.
You say what Zidane did against Brazil can’t be coached. Sure, none of his coaches could have ever done what he did that night. But you can coach those basics of technique, spatial awareness and decision making. When the player develops them himself to the level of mastery, that’s the kind of performance you can get.
He’s probably somewhere in the 10-15 bracket in terms of the all time greats.
That’s great, but it’s not in the conversation for the greatest of the great.
Zidane was in the same calibre as someone like Rui Costa. Very talented and elegant players who were joyful to watch but sometimes the games just passed them by.
Keep your eye on the ball.
ah for fuck sake.
To hit it from that height, side volley, players coming from both sides. With that technique…
fuck off.
Zidane’s problem is that he made it look too easy. It was rare that a player had to break stride to receive a pass from him. It’s all a matter of taste and opinion but I would much rather watch someone like Zidane play than say a Ronaldinho or Rivaldo.
It’s technique.
Agreed, lovely goal but he has loads of time to see it coming down from the sky and set himself
it’s balance, awareness, the balls to do it. It’s pulling it off consistently throughout his career.
it’s not just technique… it’s the full package.
the defenders have loads of time to see it and converge… they are all expecting what everyone in the world was expecting… he’ll have to take this down…
he hits a shot no one else in the World would contemplate hitting from there. With his weaker foot.
It’s genius
It’s great technique.
Some lad will contemplate that every single game you watch. They probably just won’t execute it well.
or in a champions league final…
anyway back to your game of top trumps there you man child
It’s a great goal but it’s primarily down to technique rather than creative genius.
The balls to do it what did you expect him to do? Catch it?
take a touch. Handball is a foul in soccer mate.
If you’re talking about great volleys on your weaker foot. Check out the one Totti hit with his weaker foot against Sampdoris about 10 years back. He hits a ball that comes over his shoulder at speed from an acute angle at the edge of the left hand side of the box. Much more difficult to execute than Zidane’s.
I don’t care about top trumps mate…
totti was an exceptionally gifted player.
What he and Zidane have cannot be coached. Simple as… Otherwise there’d be 500K Zidane’s and Totti’s there aren’t.
And John McGinn.
