Crikey. That’s embarrassing. Does he think the world revolves around the EPL?

Crikey. Imagine confining the odd bit of spare time you might have in the busy week to watch some soccer to the best league in the world, the English Premier League and not watching or bothering with any of the hipster/Mickey Mouse leagues.

The Premier League was exposed as a Mickey Mouse league in midweek.

hold off on that until the CL winners are presented with the trophy

I note only 1 epl team has won the champions league in the last 10 years & 2 Europa leagues in the last 10 years

You’d have to imagine Juve would have strolled to 8IAR in the EPL.

What sort of tallies of European wins did you note for the likes of Italy, Germany and France clubs over the corresponding period of the last decade?

Messi seems happy to remain in Spain and rack up the goals against Levante let et al
CR7 has proved himself in England, Spain and Italy.
El Diego won a World Cup, got a poor team to a final in 90, only for some unfortunate personal issues who knows what Argentina could have done in 94.
As the memory man himself Jimmy Magee said “different class”

Let’s put out the devil’s advocate argument against Maradona

Diego in 86 was the best I’ve ever seen, absolutely no question, did it on pitches that sometimes looked like they were freshly ploughed,
Messi’s longevity st that level is crazy

Yes Ronnie has really proved himself in Italy by going to a team who’ve won 7 titles in a row and he’s not improved them. They’ve gone backwards if anything

No sportsperson is a genius . Genius’ make great machines , produce drugs to save lives etc ,

The living shit was kicked out of DAM week in week out . Messi has it very very soft in comparison .

Messi plays against organised defences. Maradona played against teams with no tactics. There was a book out about the 1990 World Cup recently and from the author’s first hand experience of going to speak with coaches and players of the tournament the only teams with any kind of elaborate tactics were Ireland and Argentina. Some of the goals scored in massive games back in the 80s are hilarious to look at now

There’s pro’s and cons for either era. Opposition is better now, but also pitches are better now and referees protect players more. No point in comparing players across eras IMO

Could a coke addict be the best player in the world in this day and age? I doubt it somehow

Did you ever hear of Helenio Herrera . Catenaccio , etc . There have been serious defensive systems since the 60s at least . The 1990 World Cup for example was very defensive . .

A damning indictment of soccer.

Maradona was great with PIDs . We don’t know for certain with today’s stars .

The topic has gone to the GOAT
