Liverpool 2008/09

The same has I would if they were playing Celtic in a pre season friendly. Playing a very average side, used as a warm up to the type of standard they would be playing in the qualifiers for the Champions League.

According to BBC transfer gossip, Rafa has demanded 50m for Daniel Alves, David Silva and Gareth Barry. Have to say Iā€™d be quite happy with that. Thought Alves was a lost cause. Presumably Chelsea wouldnā€™t stand in the way seeing as theyā€™ve signed Bosingwa. United would prefer to sign Richards Iā€™d think so it might be realistic to get him.

Couldnā€™t he go to another team in Italy or Spain or somewhere?

Wouldnā€™t be overly impressed with Silva and Barry as midfield additions. Decent players but the biggest thing for Liverpool is trying to get more guys in that are the same quality as Torres. For the last 5 or 6 years theyā€™ve spent reasonable money on good players, theyā€™d be better off spending the same money on one great player I think. That assumes they can get them though.

I found it sickening that Giles kept harping on after the Spain Italy game about how it was incredible that Fabregas didnā€™t start and that Silva remained on the pitch for the 120minutes. This was all based on what Dunphy said when he said Silva wasnā€™t a real player so they just decided to pick on him. Lest not forget Dunphy also called Fabregas a donkey and was corrected by Bradyā€¦

Agree with Rockā€™s points on the level of quality needed. You look at the signings Mourinho made at Chelsea - Carvalho, Essien, Drogba. Top bucks but top, top qualityā€¦

They are all top quality

A lot of murmurings from the press linking the Pool with Robbie Keane. The latest is that he wants to join from Spurs and Liverpool are prepared to pay 5m with Crouch for him. To be honest I donā€™t think he is worth thatā€¦

25 million for Robbie Keane?

The world has gone fucking mental.

Where did you get that from MBB?

Donā€™t think they are looking for 20m for Crouch with only a year left on his contract. They turned down a 9m bid from Portsmouth for him so if this Keane story is to be believed then they would value him at least 14 million which is still well enough for himā€¦

not sure about the price but newstalk were talking about it last night- i think the gaurdian ran article so you might get more detail there Farmer , most LFC fans texting newstalk didnt want him, would you take him mate?

Never doubted the blokes ability (two excellent seasons for Spurs in a row now) but think he has acted like a prima donna for Ireland over the past few years. To answer your question NCC I would take him but not at Crouch plus 5mā€¦

He was the top scoring player in the premiership for the year 2007.
His performances for Spurs are vastly different to his performances for Ireland. And in fairness he has fought off, Jermaine Defoe (English international) and Darren Bent (16m) to hold onto his first team place.

I would agree though that heā€™s not really the type of player that Liverpool should be looking to buy now, they really need to add a couple of world class players to work with Torres. If they are looking at another striker then it should be Berbatov they should be trying to get. Himself and Torres together would be unbelievable.

I wouldnā€™t really mind Robbie Keane at Liverpool but Iā€™m not pushed. If Liverpool continue with a 4-2-3-1 then thereā€™s no room for him. Donā€™t think heā€™s suited to being in the 3 and if Torres were injured I donā€™t think heā€™d be any use as the 1. So Iā€™d prefer to retain Crouch.

Alternatively a 4-1-3-2 a la Spain could work in which case I think Keane could be a good foil for Torres. But I also think Crouch would be.

Iā€™d love if Liverpool signed the Russian left back Zhirkov - heā€™s class. Surprised he hasnā€™t really been linked with a move yet.

Newstalk were reporting it at 25mill last night and jsut got an email to the same effect from some gossip site. Crazy money imo but looks like Rafa is trying to buy players who will fit right into the Premiership in his bid to bag the title.

Juventus pulled out of Alonso deal signing Poulsen instead from Sevilleā€¦

Hopefully we keep him and donā€™t buy that overpriced fooko Barryā€¦

Iā€™ll second that. Liverpool badly need to sign another striker after crouchā€™s departure

If you were to listen to Koptalk the rumours are that Keane has told Ramos that he wants to leave but he wonā€™t hand in a transfer request.

Albert Riera has revealed his desire to return to English football and is trying to instigate a move to Liverpool !

Liverpool have also signed a young French striker (David Ngog) from PSG for 1.5mā€¦

Whatā€™s the story with Keane now? Reports over the weekend were that he was about to join over the next few days but havenā€™t heard owt sinceā€¦

Someone said over the weekend that we should try to buy Shevchenko. No chance of Chelsea selling him to us but I would like if he joined. Someone like him deserves another chance at leastā€¦

Liverpool are playing Hertha Berlin live on Setanta Sports 2 now if anyoneā€™s interested.

One Mr.G Barry was booed by Aston Villa fans throughout their pre-season friendly with Walsall last night !!

Liverpool have also signed another youngster, this time from Spain, Emmanuel Mendy who is a right back.

Benitez has bought a serious amount of young players over the last 3 seasons, Lets just hope 2 or 3 of these go on to make it. When and Where are they going to get the playing time tho ??
