As a Liverpool supporter who started supporting the club when Man United, Arsenal and indeed Chelsea were the more fashionable clubs it was great to finally see them lift the big one.

Ffs

Earliest memory of supporting liverpool was dean Saunders pumping the goals in I must have been 5 or 6

Before my time. The 2001-2002 season was my first as a Liverpool supporter. Michael Owen and John Arne Riise really standing out that year.

Liverpool FC is a religion.

Didnā€™t think villa were ever that far behind. Ipswich beat villa at villa park 1-0 late on that season. I was at it. Will have to google as only young at the time.

Iā€™m heartened by what was first on your listšŸ‘

We actually lost 2-1 to Ipswich in april. Villa lost 8 matches that year. Different times but also only used 14 players (including mad dog deacy) all season with 7 ever presents( didnā€™t need to google that bit)

Will never hear the end of that boss night alez alez alez shite

1980/81 is a season which sticks in my mind above most others because of the novelty of the two title challengers, Aston Villa and Ipswich, because Spurs met both at crucial stages of seasons (I was at the matches in White Hart Lane) and most of all because Spurs ended up winning the 100th FA Cup Final with the Ricky Villa goal in the replayed final.

We beat Ipswich 5-3 at White Hart Lane just before Christmas 1980. That was last defeat for Ipswich before a long unbeaten run. Like I said, I was at the Spurs v Villa match towards the end of March 1981 and I do clearly remember it billed as a must win for Villa as Ipswich had opened up a lead. We gave Villa a good trimming that day. Week before Spurs had lost 3-0 to Ipswich at Portman Road and I think Villa drew at home to Man U 3-3 after leading 2-0 and possibly even 3-0.

Ipswich were chasing a treble of League, FA Cup and UEFA Cup (which they won) and with all the fixture congestion that brought, collapsed over last 9 or 10 league games.

Villa were knocked out of the FA Cup in 3rd round by Ipswich, werenā€™t in Europe so League was their only focus.

Thatā€™s like the lad who says he picked Real Madrid as Barcelona were miles ahead of them and they were even worse than Valencia and la coruna
