Iâd say youâve ended their season
That slump in the final months of 2002 was a dreadful one. Was it 10 league games without a win that time? Shades of the last title defence in 2020/21 when we started brightly but it papered over cracks and we were similarly short of centre-backs. Somehow weâre still 3rd in the table.

Liverpool since 1990 have had a series of inflection points which signalled the medium to long term direction of the club either up or down.
Rarely do Liverpool âroll with the punchesâ. Itâs either full duck or no dinner.
The years 1989-1991 were a series of downward inflection points starting with the Hillsborough disaster and ending with the appointment of Souness but the centrepiece in football terms was the FA Cup semi-defeat to Crystal Palace.
Thereâs a sort of upward inflection point then around 1994 when Roy Evans took over and Fowler, McManaman and Redknapp were rising young players.
The defeat by Manchester United in April 1997 was a downward inflection point which was the effective end of Evans.
The next upward inflection point was the 0-1 win at Old Trafford in December 2000 when Danny Murphy scored from a free kick. That was the real start of Houllierâs best period.
Liverpool were on top of the table into October 2002 I think. The slump that followed was the end of Houllier though he lasted until the end of the following season. It featured a 1-2 defeat to Manchester United at Anfield where Jerzy Dudek let a harmless ball run through his legs and gift wrapped a goal to Diego Forlan.
Gerrard against Olympiakos in December 2004 was an inflection point and a sliding doors moment.
Thereâs a bang of 2009/10 off this season. 2009 was the next inflection point downwards. That was a disastrous transfer window and ended up being the end of another bald manager. But even that team beat United at home in October.
The next inflection point upwards was Suarez signing. That was the key event that led to 2014 and another Gerrard sliding doors moment, or just sliding.
You know the other inflection points since then.
Down: the triple whammy of the Gerrard slip, Suarez leaving and the 1-2 defeat by Manchester United in March 2015. That was the end of Brendan.
Up: Klopp in.
Down: Pickford making shit of Van Dijkâs knee.
Up: Alissonâs header against West Brom which got us into the Champions League and salvaged something from that horrific season.
Down: Nunez signing and ManĂŠ leaving.
Up: McAllister signing.
Down: this summer.

Being outplayed by a poor 10 man Newcastle team gave a glimpse as to what was to come. It will be a long season. Hopefully Slot uses it wisely to prepare for a proper go mext season. Needs a few defenders though.

Rode their luck in first number of games and got away with alright. Lot of change there and will take some time for things to come right. We go again.
I wouldnât be that sure Slot will be there next season. I wouldnât be that sure Xabi Alonso will be at Real Madrid next season.
When you have a massive figure within a club who is reaching the end, and you donât know how that end is going to be handled, that can take out the manager with the player if the manager is not of a standing of a Ferguson or a Guardiola.
As well as losing Suarez in 2014, Brendan had to deal with how to end Steven Gerrardâs time at the club and come out unscathed. He couldnât do that.
You look at the mess Barcelona got themselves into towards the end of Messiâs time.
If Salah is not the main player, if the team is not built around him, a clean break has to be made. You canât have the situation where he is there and yet marginalised. It drags the club down.
Salah could go in the January window and perhaps he should.

Also, if it turns out jota was speeding which it looks like and that he killed his brother, thats also in the mix
I watched about 20 mins. Liverpool looked the better side overall. Should have sold salah because it just doesnât look like he can play with whatever lads they bought. One lad was greedy. Cut in off the left and shoot wide of the far post was his forte.
Nonetheless they should really have won. Didnât see them hit the post but gakpo missed an easy looking header, and Salah miscued a couple of good chances.
They had some nice passing.
Unlike Celtic who were just lumpen.

Canât see Slot being sacked so soon after winning the league. Heâll get time.
